Hi! I am a Senior Scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute in Toronto, Canada (@Sunnybrook, @MBPatUofT). MRI research of the brain is what I do (mostly) ...
Another day at the office. Here I am with my colleague @bradmacintosh… but every day is different! See below for my research news, thoughts and diversions.
Thanks @TorontoStar for continuing to showcase the plight of those with #longCovid; your reporting of local scientists (including me and my team) who are investigating how #COVID19 can have lingering impacts on the brain; and the ongoing quest for effective treatments.
Scientists are still trying to understand how COVID-19 can impact the brain. One of the most persistent and troubling symptoms of the disease is “brain fog,” which can leave formerly healthy, active people a shell of their former selves. https://t.co/3QGDQLGVbd
York Region Public Health and Ontario need to increase appointments dramatically to get the 50+ age group their third booster doses before the new year ideally. This is when the rest of Ontario will be offered third doses....no point in expanding eligibility with no spots
Hi, check out our neuroimaging protocol for studying brain effects of #LongCovid, hot off the presses at @CMAJ_Open. Happy to chat with others engaged in similar work! Thanks to @CIHR_IRSC for their funding support.
Check out this Scientific American article for initial EEG findings from the #NEUROCOVID19 project, involving @Sunnybrook , @rotmanresearch and main investigators Drs. Allison Sekuler @asek47 & Eugenie Roudaia @eyebraineugenie : with @CIHR_IRSC support
Disturbingly, SARS-CoV-2 turns up in some of the same brain areas targeted by Alzheimer's. Will COVID be seen as a risk factor for neurodegeneration going forward? By @gstix1 via @sciam

Some interesting work being reported by my @rotmanresearch collaborators in the #NEUROCOVID19 project, investigating the impact of #COVID19 and "long-haul" effects on the brain!
So here's my pal Otie. Otie and I are about to go on vacation for a few weeks. He's hypoallergenic which is great, but he grows hair instead of fur... and it is getting out of hand again. I can't believe how hard it is to find grooming at short notice in Toronto! Any suggestions?
Hi All- I recently wrote a high-level summary of one of the research themes in my lab: technology development to promote safe MRI of patients with deep brain stimulation implants. Have a look if you're interested! Thanks to @CIHR_IRSC for Project Grant funding.
Hi team (incl. Melanie Morrison, @schweizert1 and @SunnyD_UT) - our work on test-retest reliability of task-based fMRI in brain tumor patients is in the top 10% most cited @PLOSONE papers published in 2016! https://t.co/3oKWhGontM #PLOSTopCited

Thanks @CIHR_IRSC for funding my project in the COVID-19 Research Gaps and Priorities program! My team will be using neuroimaging to investigate the impact of the virus on the brain in relation to long-haul symptoms, in the elderly. #COVID19#LongCovid
