@Dennis99@JimsWheels That would mean pedestrians walking on what amounts to a narrow 'island' with cars speeding past on one side and cyclists on the other side. I don't think many pedestrians would like that!
@CitizenUddin Driver was at fault for overtaking too close to the crossing, and as a result had to pull in a bit too early, but still (just) left enough space for the cyclist. Cyclist not at fault - stopped as quickly as reasonably could.
@ReformSecYork@CTMAJA@intothefuture45 But pedestrians and cyclists now have the full width of the bridge, hence more capacity for them. And remember one car takes a lot more space than one pedestrian/cyclist, so you can fit fewer cars into the same area
@ReformSecYork@CTMAJA@intothefuture45 Does it? Looks to me like just as many people are using the bridge as would be possible if it was given over to cars. This has increased capacity for walking/cycling journeys (while also reducing capacity for cars).
@enfilmigult@GyllKing You seem to be assuming that because dismissing orientation is wrong (I agree with you) dismissing 'I'm a woman' is also wrong. But the two situations are different. Being wrong on X doesn't necessarily imply being wrong on Y
@enfilmigult@GyllKing cannot give birth to' I feel that's missing the point. The thing is, being a woman (or a cat, or the pope) is objective shared reality. If your feelings contradict objective reality, then it's objective reality that's correct.
@enfilmigult@GyllKing I'm not dismissing gender identity feelings. If you are a man who feels like a woman then those feelings are real. But the key point is that makes you a man who feels like a woman. It does NOT make you an actual woman.
@enfilmigult@GyllKing But the other side is, you seem to be saying, "I feel X" is equivalent to "I am X". It isn't. 'I feel like a cat' does not make me a cat. 'I feel like the Pope' does not make me the Pope. And 'I feel like a woman' does not make me a woman.
@fiercepatricks Not liking Pride does not mean homophobic. I know a few gay people who want nothing to do with Pride because of the way Pride has been taken over by trans activists - so they feel Pride no longer represents LGB people.
@ReconnectingOx Well obviously you're not going to abolish all congestion, but a congestion charge is likely to reduce it. I don't live in Oxford but I've visited it before and after the charge, and 'after' seems to me a far more pleasant place.
@enfilmigult@GyllKing But I would say I'm not measureing by what they look like. I'm measuring by physical reality. What someone says isn't a good measure here - after all, if I tell you I'm a cat, I'm sure you'll realise that in fact I'm not.
@enfilmigult@GyllKing Not quite. If it's 'I feel like a woman' then you're correct - noone else can fault that. But if it's 'I am a woman' that's a statement about physical reality and it is legitimate to say 'no, you're a man'
@enfilmigult@GyllKing No, I'm not thinking about whether you can change it. I mean, internal to your head, so only you can know whether you are gay or not, and it's therefore not normally valid for other people to say 'no you're not'
@daniellismore With that statement the Lemkin institute has lost all credibility on this issue. Think what you're saying: Genocide is mass killing of people. Do you really think expecting people to use the toilet matching their actual sex is the same as mass killing?
@JennaFights4You Data is data. It's either true or false. Data does not have beliefs and so can't be 'transphobic'. If you have evidence to believe this data is false, then tell us. If not, then you should accept the data.
My name is Ella, I'm 17 years old.
I do long jump. I play volleyball. I go to school in New Richmond, Wisconsin.
When my school allowed a biological male into the girls' restroom without telling parents —
I went to the school board.
With my name attached.
In my own town.
I got bullied for it. Harassed online. Even some of my own teachers came after me.
I'm still here.
Because here's what I know:
The net in women's volleyball is set nearly a foot lower for a reason.
A biological male can hit a ball across that net at force that could seriously injure a girl.
And in track — all it takes is three biological males entering the girls' category
and not a single girl in this state stands on a podium.
I didn't speak up because it was easy.
I spoke up because somebody had to.
The Supreme Court is about to answer the question every girl in America is asking.
We're ready.
@JenniferSey@xx_xyathletics
@enfilmigult@GyllKing OK I don't agree with anyone saying that. To my mind it's flawed logic. So I don't see that it refutes my point that being gay is (roughly speaking) a mental state - so not at all like whether you are a man or a woman (which is physical reality)
