In Lao PDR, over 140 open-source, AI-based sensors have been installed in schools across the country. Each one is recording air pollution levels on open-data platforms providing useful insights to community leaders and decision makers. 📣
In East Asia and the Pacific where every day over 100 deaths of children under 5 are linked to air pollution – The Government of Lao PDR, @UNICEF with support from @Arm are adopting AI solutions and equipping young people with the tools they need to address the issue.

At the #ASEANYouthDialogue with Lao Youth Union, @LaosAtUN and @UNFPALaoPDR, we’re empowering youth—especially girls—to lead the way.
By investing in education, digital skills, and equal opportunities, we can ensure every young person can shape a brighter future.
Truly inspired by my meeting with H.E. Mr. Monexay Laomoaxong, Secretary General of the Lao Youth Union. Together, we share the passion, vision, and commitment to empowering Lao youth to flourish and shape a brighter future for all.
Our team w/Min of Education & Sports was mobilized to assess the damage to schools from flooding in Luang Namtha. With chairs, desks and books destroyed by water, the resilience of teachers and students remain strong as communities work together to rebuild their lives.
Heartbreaking to see the flood damage in Luang Namtha—schools destroyed, children displaced.
Proud of @UNICEF_Lao's tireless efforts in leading recovery, providing clean water & education support. Together, we will rebuild and restore hope #ForEveryChild.
This is what we mean when we say UNICEF is committed to reaching every child in need.
Here, colleagues of mine from @UNICEFLaos are traveling over floodwater in wooden dugouts to assess the impact on children of #TyphoonYagi.
They found submerged schools, playgrounds and homes.
"The ground-floor classrooms were inundated, their windows and doors swallowed by the flood."

Yesterday, I visited the flood-stricken village of Veune Khene in Laos.
Homes and schools submerged, yet the resilience of the community remains strong.
With @UNICEFLaos support, vital supplies are reaching families, and amidst the devastation, there’s hope.

Vientiane is now badly hit by floods, but amidst the devastation, it’s moving to see the Lao spirit intact – collective action, support, and smiles even in the toughest moments. #FloodResponse
We are ready to assist the Government of Lao PDR as severe floods impact the northern provinces.
