M-KOPA Clients Say Phones Became Unusable Weeks After Completing Payments
Hours after our most recent report exposed growing complaints from M-KOPA customers who claim the company disables devices remotely once payments are completed, another customer has come forward alleging that their phone, which had been in perfect working condition, was inexplicably switched off just two weeks after they cleared their final installment, with suspicions arising that this was done in retaliation for refusing a new loan offer from the company.
Upon reaching out to M-KOPA for assistance, the customer was informed that their phone was no longer under warranty, meaning the company would not take any responsibility for the sudden malfunction, a response that mirrors the frustrations expressed by numerous other users who have accused the firm of deliberately crippling devices after full payments are made, leaving them with no recourse despite having fully honoured their contractual obligations.
This latest complaint adds to the growing outcry from Kenyans who have dealt with M-KOPAโs controversial business model, which initially focused on selling solar home systems to rural households through instalment payments, a venture that has since been tainted by allegations that many of the products stopped functioning soon after the warranty expired, forcing customers to either seek costly repairs or abandon the devices altogether despite having spent substantial amounts over time.
"Hi Cyprian. About the rogue company called MKOPA, I've also had a nasty experience with them. The phone I purchased from them went off 2 weeks after I completed payment. They contacted me with another loan product offer, which I declined. I suspect they remotely switched it off. Upon contacting them, their argument is that my phone is out of warranty and they cannot help me. Let Kenyans be cautious when dealing with this company because they are real predators. When they started operations, they were selling solar system kits, majorly in rural areas. Most of those gadgets barely functioned after their warranty ended and owners completed payments, which were also exorbitant. Let Kenyans boycott and avoid MKOPA like plague."

Na Msiogope kulea watoto wenu vijana. Dont run away and leave your child behind with an innocent girl simply because you think you're not ready. Sasa unawacha msichana na mimba alafu? Ati you're not ready. Who is? And btw kids are not that expensive like it is exagerrated here. Shida yenu ni kutaka mtoto aishi kama hii watu ya youtube couples. Kwani hamjai jiuliza niaje wazazi wetu walikua wanalea 7 children na salary ya 9k? They lived within their means
Wewe ukipata mtoto just live within your means. Hii madoido ingine mingi wachana nayo. Diaper ni 850,hiyo inaenda 2 weeks. Calpol ya fever ni 250,hiyo inaenda 2 months. The rest is just feeding the mother, who inturn feeds the kid. Simple
And something else I noted, mwanaume ukijua unategemewa huwa unajituma zaidi. And fortunately njia hufunguka here and there. Shida yenu ni mnataka starehe ya nyani na bado mdinyane. Ndio mmejaza schedule za abrotion clinics namna hii. A child is not a burden, rather a responsibility. Msiogope watoto. I believe any man who can raise his penis for more than 5 minutes can also raise a child.
Na pia sisemi mdinyane ovyo ovyo kama brukenge. But if it does happen and a foetus is formed, its not the end of the world. It just means your responsibilities, both of you might start earlier than anticipated.
Tuwache uwoga jameni, lakini mimi hii kipii yangu nataka nifanyie DNA. Kuna tabia nimegundua na sio zangu kapsaa,he has been spanking women when they are going up the stairs saying Ruto must go repetitively. Kukiendelea hivi landlord atanifkuza jameni
