Why do we have such a hard time imagining substantive economic change? I have a new open access paper that explores this question, looking at the ways academic sustainability writing shuts down our economic imaginations - and how it might expand them. https://t.co/lB0767aw9k 1/n
Happy to share a collaborative review on the impacts of human societies on earth systems over the very long term. Lots of insight here, and lots more to learn. Thanks to @paleotropics for putting the piece together! @UoYArchaeology@YorkEnvironment

Interesting to read this important new #YorkResearch from @simon_mair and Alberto Roca Florido that contextualises the UK marine economy and examines a range of environmental impacts 👇🌎
Exciting new @mspace_uk paper: Tensions between the #carbon, #employment and #valueadded generated by #marine sectors: Triple bottom line analysis using a novel #inputoutput table for the #UK - Roca Florido - Sustainable Development - Wiley Online Library 👇🌊🙌
This is the first paper from the economic analysis side of @MSPACE_UK, we have more data (including sub-national tables) and more analysis to come soon!

With Alberto Roca Florido I have a new paper exploring tensions in the triple bottom line of the marine economy. https://t.co/EFZJXM7Lfa
We highlight the different impacts that different sectors can have...
That said the IO table does allow us to contextualise the UK marine economy and we can see that the marine focused sectors cross a wide range of carbon and employment intensities. Some marine sectors are very GHG intensive, others more middle of the road in a wider UK context.
Delighted to join the nice gang in @ices_asc #ICESASC24 Session I at 15:30 to present the @MSPACE_UK#DST decision support system for #ClimateSmart#MSP. Please come along🙌🌊
All of us @GreenpeaceUK appalled at draconian prison sentences just now for @JustStop_Oil#WholeTruthFive activists. Peaceful protest is vital for healthy democracy.
Will the new @attorneygeneral immediately turn attention to stopping these authoritarian responses to protest?

Banning advertising can be a part of climate action. Two recent pieces exploring the links between advertising, growth, capitalism & climate change. 1/4
By banning capitalist adverts we create space for art that promotes alternative sets of values and dynamics that can help deliver climate-compatible economies.

TLDR: Capitalist dynamics that we take for granted (making money as the main motivator of production, consumerism, endless Growth etc) are actively created by cultural forces - one of which is advertising.
