@shoshanahjacobs I didn’t know how to face my students and ease their dread. After showing evidence all semester long, how the now is so crucial to prevent the worst climate crisis. We can’t give up though.

He then went on to claim that "There is no science out there, or no scenario out there, that says that the phase-out of fossil fuel is what’s going to achieve 1.5C".
There absolutely is, right here: https://t.co/EJVy1g7eHL
This fund is badly needed, as nations least responsible for the problem are those bearing the brunt of the impacts. However, this is just a fraction of the $200-$250 billion developing countries will need **every year** by 2030 to adapt to climate change. https://t.co/Kji2Cv7MKX
Students thought it worked really well and the virtual format made them more comfortable presenting and asking questions. They didn’t have to spend money, they were not exposed to potential viruses, it saved the teaching team a lot of time setting up.

Thought I would share how I set up a poster session on Zoom for a 130 student class and why my students and I thought it was a success and what made me decide to do the session virtually rather than in-person.

Groups that were presenting had one member sharing screen with poster and then turned on videos to present. Good discussions afterwards with questions in the chat or by students unmuting.
It all worked way better than I expected.

I need to clear something up about boreal wildfires. Yes trees will grow following 🔥. This will compensate for some combustion emissions. But, MOST of what burns is NOT tree biomass. It’s duff and peat on the ground - much older carbon emitted to the atmosphere. #ClimateCrisis
Talked about SSPs today in class. Most of the possible future worlds are not a worlds I want to live in. And the one that sounds wonderful, seems so unattainable given the current state of the world. I was emotional in class and the heaviness was palpable.

To my student who invited another student who was sitting separately from everyone else to join their group, I see you. You are making a difference in this world.

What starts a wildfire is immaterial to how extensive, damaging & deadly it becomes--that's determined by fuel load (enhanced by climate-driven heat & drought). So when someone cries "arson" as a means of deflection, you know they're a denialist tool.
Won't name names though.
