Repeat after me:
I will not willingly sacrifice my body on the perverted altar of capitalism.
I will honor my body with rest whenever I can.
I will call out exploitation and injustice when I see it, and I will seek to elevate the voices of those the powerful seek to silence.
I'm taking a #sociology of #religion class this semester and to say I've missed taking sociology classes is an understatement. I love my #theology classes but damn there is something about a sociology class that gets me every time. #gradschool
These are small steps, but they are steps. I think making As last semester really helped me realize that I can relax a little bit. I was, as usual, terrified of failure and being behind the curb of where I needed to be to succeed, but clearly I need to chill on that a little bit.
Trying to make more time this semester to a) engage with material I'm not studying that is of interest to me & b) connect with people... Today I chatted with a few classmates and a professor for a bit and went by the library to check out some books on Evangelicalism in America.
I may or may not have forgotten that I started this thread in the chaos of Finals... oops. Apologies for not providing the promised hot takes. Will try to do better next time.
@jacasiegel Weird/spicy sauces, fancy cheese and crackers, a good board game (Ticket to Ride, Trails, Catan, etc), fun socks/shirts, commemorative book of his favorite band, and a new belt have all been winners in my world.
I truly think there should be more of a “choose your own adventure” approach to these sort of courses. Let people who want to take exams, but also let people write papers and make art and give presentations - let people express what they’ve learned in their own voice.
I know this information in my upcoming Hebrew Bible Midterm is important, but I’d really rather be doing almost anything else than studying for it. I hate when we attach grades to learning. Really limits true intellectual curiosity - especially in a survey course.
@heykatyjen Not a bad theory. I feel like there are like 5 genuinely good songs, 5 that could’ve used a little more work, and the other 10-13 were not ready/may never have been ready to be debuted. Definitely all felt rushed production-wise and the roll out was a lot for not much.
Studying for my Hebrew Bible Quiz while listening to @rhettmc's Human Overboard album... "more than a savior, we needed help" is my entire mood right now. #mdiv#gradschool#deconstruction
@JessBScott Recently left Jax, but I had a good experience with Dr. Guha. I think she may just be a GYN though (not 100% sure). Here's her link if you want to give her a look: https://t.co/jSTkAmvkku
Note: I woke up early to draft that paper so I can go to a study group and then write another paper in the afternoon so that I can have my evening and all day tomorrow free to rest before a very busy week. Take your #break/#Sabbath/#rest - merely existing necessitates it.
Currently reading Augustine. My takeaway so far is that he's a kinky boob guy... somehow I don't think that's gonna work for my reading response. #seminarythoughts#mdiv
