A big part of being reliable is communicating in time to let people know you can't show up for them at that moment. There is maturity in recognizing that reliability doesn't mean being perfect it means having the respect and self awareness to give a heads up when you can’t.
I'm sorry, but looking at both the Ghanaian and Nigerian societies should show you what beating children into obedience does. Look at how many adults who can't stand up to authority, who are dishonest, multiple personalities, timid, and extremely insecure. This isn't even unpacking the pedophilia problem, rape culture and internal anti blackness. Lol if beating worked wouldn't our societies be a reflection of that?
