🔎 In this strategic reflection, the author highlights a critical reality:
at a time of growing nuclear risks and accelerating arms competition, the credibility of the global non-proliferation regime increasingly depends not on treating the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) as competing frameworks, but on finding ways for them to work together in a mutually reinforcing manner.

⚖️ The key challenge today is to strengthen complementarity between these international instruments in order to reinforce the global architecture of:
✅ nuclear disarmament;
✅ arms control;
✅ non-proliferation;
✅ international peace and security.

🌐 This contribution is part of broader efforts to promote multilateral cooperation, strategic stability, and a more secure world free from the threat of nuclear weapons.

🌍 A few years ago, the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) entered into force a historic milestone in global disarmament and the foundation of the OPCW’s work toward a world #FreeOfChemicalWeapons.

With 193 States Parties, only four countries remain outside the treaty. It is the most widely adopted disarmament agreement in history.

100% of declared chemical weapons stockpiles have been destroyed over 72,000 metric tonnes eliminated under international supervision. A truly unprecedented achievement.

🔵 🔍 A robust verification system
Through inspections worldwide, including in the chemical industry, the OPCW ensures compliance and prevents rearmament.

⚛️🌍 #NPT Conférence d’examen à l’ONU : un moment crucial pour la sécurité mondiale

Le Centre de Recherche et d’Information pour le Désarmement et la Sécurité (CRIDS) suit avec une attention particulière l’ouverture de la 11e conférence d’examen du Traité sur la non-prolifération des armes nucléaires (#NPT) à New York 🇺🇳.

🧭 Le #NPT reste un pilier fondamental de la sécurité internationale avec 191 États parties, reposant sur trois engagements essentiels :

🔹 empêcher la prolifération nucléaire ☢️

🔹 progresser vers le désarmement nucléaire ✌️

🔹 garantir l’usage pacifique de l’énergie nucléaire 🔋

⚠️ Dans un contexte marqué par la montée des tensions géopolitiques et l’érosion de certains engagements, le CRIDS souligne l’urgence de renforcer les mécanismes de dialogue, de confiance et de respect des traités internationaux.

🔍 Pour le CRIDS, la non-prolifération ne peut être efficace que si elle est accompagnée de :

📢 l’information rigoureuse
🎓 la sensibilisation des citoyens
📚 l’éducation aux enjeux stratégiques
🤝 et un plaidoyer constant pour le désarmement

🌐 Nous réaffirmons que la sécurité durable ne peut être construite que sur la coopération internationale, la transparence et le respect du droit international.

🚨 Le renforcement du #NPT n’est pas une option, mais une nécessité urgente pour préserver la paix mondiale.
