@woollythinker @kathynancygirl But if synthetic dyes were so clean and safe we wouldn’t be talking about the negative effects the effluent from dye house have on the environment or why it is important for the workers to have safe working conditions.
@woollythinker @kathynancygirl It’s unfortunate that there is a us vs. them mentality between natural and synthetic dyers. Both need to be respected & precautions need to be taken. There was a lot of risky behavior in natural dyeing in the 70’s & the bad rap grows out of the handbooks written at that time.
@NeolithicSheep Agreed. But it is misleading to act like it isn’t there. Synthetic dyes can be used safely but the dyer should use a ventilator and gloves. Also, I don’t know any natural dyers that dye at a large scale using anything other than alum and iron as a modifier.
