I am extremely disappointed with the way my father’s health insurance claim is being handled by Niva Bupa.
In 2023, I purchased a health insurance policy for my father with a sum insured of ₹10 lakh per year. We have been policyholders for the last 3 years and have never made any claim.
A few years ago, my father had TB, which was completely treated at a govt hospital.
Recently, my father suffered from a severe case of appendicitis. Unfortunately, the appendix ruptured inside his abdomen, causing a serious infection that affected both the small and large intestines. He had to undergo a major surgery, including removal of parts of the infected intestine, and currently has a stoma. This was a life-threatening medical emergency that required immediate treatment.
However, when we submitted our claim of approximately ₹7 lakh, it was rejected citing his old TB history. The shocking part is that appendicitis has no connection with a fully treated TB infection from years ago. Despite providing all the documents they requested, we continue to receive repeated queries and delays instead of a fair resolution.
Now my father requires another surgery, which will cost around ₹4 lakh more, and we are again struggling to get any clarity regarding coverage. It has already been over 1.5 months since we submitted documents for reimbursement, yet we are continuously being asked for more information without any clear decision.
We are a middle-class family. People buy health insurance for exactly these kinds of medical emergencies, so that they are not forced to arrange lakhs of rupees at short notice while caring for a loved one fighting for his health.
I always believed Niva Bupa was a reputed insurer, but our experience has been deeply distressing. We are not asking for anything beyond what we have paid premiums for. We only want a fair and transparent review of our father’s claim based on the actual medical condition being treated.
Please help us get this matter reviewed and resolved at the earliest. We are only seeking a fair assessment of a genuine medical claim.

All of us have negative mindset about lockdown. But there are some positive impacts also. Pollution has been decreasing like quality of air improves, river cleaning, ozone layer healing etc.#StayHomeStaySafe#BePositive
