🕯️Today, we remember Hong Kong activist Marco Leung Ling-kit (梁凌杰), the man in the yellow raincoat.
On 15 June 2019, he fell to his death after protesting against a law that would allow extradition to mainland #China.
His tragic death moved millions to march for freedom in #HongKong on June 16, 2019.
Happy birthday to our co-founder and Chair @benedictrogers 🎉
Thank you for your endless dedication and enthusiasm for the cause of #HongKong and wider human rights issues. We hope you have a wonderful day surrounded by loved ones.
🚨 Hong Kong Watch strongly condemns the enactment of the Safeguarding National Security (Procedural Matters) Regulation, which grants #HongKong Chief Executive John Lee the power to certify any criminal case as a national security matter.
This law was passed without due process, and aligns with the anniversaries of 4 June, 9 June and 12 June, which all underscore the need for fundamental freedoms in the city.
We urge the international community to take immediate action to hold those responsible to account.

@patrickpoon The hope of 1.03 million marching that day has turned into desolation.
“Wherever the CCP arrives, not even grass grows” — Hong Kong is the living proof.
Freedom, rule of law, prosperity — all destroyed by it. Never forget.
In 1991, right at Tiananmen Square, Nancy Pelosi and fellow U.S. Congressmen unfurled this banner:
“To those who died for democracy in China”
The CCP police chased them away immediately, but the truth endures. We will never forget June 4th. Never forget. 🕊️

1.03 million people marched peacefully on June 10.
What they received in return on June 12 were gunshots, tear gas, and violent suppression.
History has shown that Hong Kong’s problem was never that its people spoke out. The problem was that those in power refused to listen.
Seven years later, Hong Kong has lost Apple Daily, lost the freedom of assembly, and lost many of those courageous enough to speak the truth.
But history does not forget.
Never forget June 10. Never forget June 12.
There were no rioters.
There was only tyranny.

Ukrainian student Iryna Zabudko died in a hospital today.
She was severely injured during Russian attack on Kyiv on June 2nd.
Never forget. Never forgive.
