🚨This is the situation of Sikhs in India: Today Sikhs protested to demand the registration of an FIR against a Hindutva leader accused of ramming his car into Sikh sangat outside Gurdwara Panjokhra Sahib in Haryana on August 7. Instead of addressing their demand, Haryana Police, under the BJP government, allegedly used brutal force against the protesters, reportedly seriously injuring multiple Sikhs, including youngsters and elders.

This raises serious concerns about the safety, dignity, and rights of minorities in India.

⁨Mohan Bhagwat, head of the RSS, is planning to come to Canada. But have we forgotten what the RSS represents?

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has recommended sanctions against the RSS, including restricting entry into the U.S. and freezing its assets.

Human rights organizations have also documented the role of RSS-backed groups in religious violence, including the 2002 Gujarat violence, where more than 1,000 people were killed.

The RSS has deep ideological roots in racial nationalism. Its former leader M.S. Golwalkar expressed admiration for Nazi Germany’s racial policies and viewed them as a lesson for India.

Bhagwat has repeatedly promoted the idea that India’s national identity is fundamentally Hindu, an ideology that denies the distinct identities of millions of Sikhs, Muslims, Christians and others.

Canada must not ignore the concerns raised by international human rights bodies or the experiences of communities affected by Hindutva extremism.

In 1906, in Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia, a Punjabi Sikh hawker named Charan Singh Dhillon was photographed resting beside his bicycle and travel goods during a long rural journey.

Charan Singh had spent years travelling through isolated towns selling household goods and fabrics. Hawking offered independence, but it also meant long roads, uncertain earnings, and constant movement.

In this photograph, he wears an early 1900s old-style Punjabi turban with soft practical folds and a full beard. His loose coat and worn trousers show signs of continuous travel.
Beside him sit cloth bundles tied securely to his bicycle, carrying both his goods and personal belongings.

A well-built man, over six feet tall, 35-year-old Jaswinder Singh was posted in Tripura with the 42 Battalion of the Border Security Force. On 3 March, he was on leave at home—in the border village of Diwangarh, around forty kilometres south-west of Jammu—when the Narcotics Control Bureau, an agency that comes under the union home ministry, picked him up. What followed was a seventeen-day ordeal that ended in his death.

Jaswinder’s family had no access to him during this time, other than a four-minute distress call that he was able to make from the NCB office in Jammu, ten days after he was detained. His wife, Lovejeet Kour, told me that he begged for help on this call, saying that he was facing unbearable torture at the hands of the narcotics officials. “My biggest fear used to be his safety on the border in Tripura, far from home. I feared him dying at the border,” she said. “But not like this—literally being frisked away while he was on leave and at home, and dying by torture in NCB custody.”

In a lecture being organized by Punjab University, speakers associated with the RSS have been invited in a conspiratorial manner to speak about the history of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji and the Panj Pyare.

The question is: Is there a shortage of historians in Punjab who can speak about Sikh history? Such actions raise doubts that Sikh history is being presented according to a particular ideology to mislead our younger generation.

We strongly condemn this. What is even more unfortunate is that the aware students who were protesting against this were subjected to a baton charge by the university administration and the police, cases were registered against them, and reports of disrespect towards the Sikh articles of faith (the Kakars) have also emerged.

After turning the martyrdom day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji into a government event and channeling Punjab’s treasury to outside companies, the Bhagwant Mann government is now moving towards making a mockery of the sacredness of Mata Gujri Ji and the Sahibzadas’ unparalleled martyrdom.

On matters of martyrdom days, the government should seek guidance not from its political strategists but from Sikh scholars who understand Sikh principles.

Under the name of “fancy dress,” schools are being made to hold competitions where children are dressed as Mata Gujri Ji, the younger Sahibzadas, and the Sikh martyrs — which goes against Sikh Maryada.

The Aam Aadmi Party government has stooped so low that instead of stopping such practices, it is officially issuing letters encouraging them.

The Sikh perspective and Sikh martyrdoms are not fancy dress themes — they are our soul, our identity.

The Education Minister and the Education Department should immediately withdraw this decision, issue an apology, and instead of fancy dress competitions, organize literature-based competitions related to the history of the Sahibzadas and Mata Gujri Ji.
