If the fire fighter was so scared and focused on the person with the gun he would have gotten off the dude he was choking to death and refocused his attention on the woman that had the gun.

Furthermore the woman wasn't even being violent she was telling him to get off. Only once he was going purple; "a witness with medical training described Taylor as turning purple, unable to breathe or talk, and defenseless", did she shoot because the fire fighter wasn't getting off.

He didn't care about the gun, he was just killing the dude because he is a maniac and you guys are just retarded.
