By all appearances, she passes as a young human woman...until she opens her mouth.

She's still working on her human speech.

She's caught a ground creature. Snatching it as it raced past.

Holding it down, she gnaws into its belly. The fur is irritating, but the meat is warm...

Her feet are 𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘺 sensitive to this harsh ground, with stones drawing tears when she steps upon them.

The soft soil of this bog though is a sweet relief. Reminding her of the gentle flows of the sea...

[𝑹𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒍𝒆 @SinkBcneath]

She will follow. Not wanting to be alone again.

The younger mere's movements are more stumbling, but she strides with a clear determination...

The red-headed mermaid peered slowly around the side of the massive rock.

The bird didn’t 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 threatening, but who knows if she’d attack if Ripple strayed too close.

Still, sliding into the water, she slowly swam closer to shore, powerful tail pushing through the waves.

The "bird" is looking for sea shells, and stomping around in the sand.

Its goopy by the water, though . . . If she stands in it for too long, it turns to glass, which is pretty but not comfortable.

"I feel your eyes, you know." Hope calls out, looking directly at the rock.

She’s watching Shadow’s “bird.”

She knows Shadow trusts them but…she’s not taking any chances.

She’s tucked behind a rock just off the shoreline, peering around the rock to gaze at the “bird.”

[𝑹𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒍𝒆 @SinkBcneath]

She sees @MaidOfTheWoods along a calm stretch of shoreline.

The mermaid swims up silently.

She wants to eat them.

Perched at the water’s edge, waiting for the prey to come a littleee closer…

//I love that writing with @FairshadowRP lets me feel comfortable enough to go full feral with my wild muses. ♡︎

Like I just love trying to make my feral writing descriptive enough where you’re IN this creature’s head! ✨

— innards, now floating in shreds in the water.

She found that Shadow had beaten her to the most delicious meal: the liver and all its tender fats.

But there was still plenty of the stomach left for her to enjoy…

[𝑹𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒍𝒆 @SinkBcneath]

Ripple watched as the life slowly faded from the landwalker.

Mermaids were utterly curious creatures by nature, and the younger mére was delighted to watch as the man’s thrashing slowed…and slowed…

But then, as Shadow —

watching a man drown — the way they thrashed.. the way the bubbles flew from their lips as the water rushed in.. the way their eyes bulged and turned red.. — it always sent the most delightful sensation of shivers down Shadow’s back.

She snatched a young seal from the shoreline tonight.

Biting into its plump belly. Mmmmff...a good dinner!

[𝑹𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒍𝒆 @SinkBcneath]

“Bad bird…” Ripple whispers in wonder.

She trusts the older mermaid’s experience.

Still, she takes another step toward the bird.

Maybe she can get close enough…to lunge at it…

[• . 𝖎𝖋 𝖎 𝖍𝖆𝖉 𝖆 𝖍𝖊𝖆𝖗𝖙 ° . • @PreciousScales]

Shadow stares, expression uncertain.

"that's a bad bird," she whispers, slightly spooked.

[𝑹𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒍𝒆 @SinkBcneath]

Yes, scary...

She’s crouching down low, flinching when the bird moves…

She wants to eat it but…

But she’s still very unsteady…

Drawn to the blowing sand, she takes stumbling steps toward the other mermaid…

[𝑹𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒍𝒆 @SinkBcneath]

Oooooh! That catches her attention!

Not minding the thick strands of seaweed dangling from her, she gets to her feet.

She’s been following Shadow onto shore lately and starting to use her legs more than she ever had before.

It’s been wonderful, getting to explore —

Shadow is throwing handfuls of sand, watching it disperse in the wind.
