Colton, S.D., recently formed an economic development group accepting an inaugural $15,000 investment from @SiouxValleyEnergy. The funding comes from the Cooperative’s #REVIVE2030 program which was designed to partner with local communities to assist with growth and development.

1/ Good morning SVE members! Major progress was made yesterday in power restoration. At the beginning of the day yesterday we had just under 4,000 out of power and we are now down to under 500 members without power.

2/ There are currently 65 separate outages, which means most of the “fixes” will require lineworkers to go to each of those 65 locations. Much of the work is now in the northern portion of the SVE service territory so the crews will be getting closer together.

(Or if staying in South Dakota, it’s like making nearly nine round trips from Sioux Falls to Rapid City.)
In addition to SVE’s workforce of 100-plus employees, more than 60 personnel from other co-ops and contractors are working to get power back to everyone as soon as possible.

Crews are back out this morning making repairs across SVE’s service territory.
“We’ve never fought storm conditions like this before. We’re basically dealing with a damage path 50 miles wide and 100 miles long” said Vice President of Engineering and Operations Ted Smith.

The damage swath caused by the derecho is more widespread than ice storms or tornadoes which tend to have a more focused area of damage. SVE engineers are still patrolling the co-op’s 6,100 miles of line – the equivalent of driving from Los Angeles to Boston, and back again.
