What makes Flowery work is that, in spite of his "MC-ness" and hacked stats, he's still a genuinely caring person who helps the group and others.

I'd vouch for that, if not for the fact we're in a Toby Fox game, and the chapter juxtaposes Suselle with Dessriel, as both couples not only parallel each other from what we've seen and know from the characters, but we also know what happens later.
So yeah, expect angst soon.
