I will never forget what Alfa Kola @PiousGeek the other day, he said marriage is a service and thinking about it, I understand it better now.

Until we return to the true purpose of marriage as Allah Himself mentioned, we may never get it right as Muslim couples. Allah says that marriage is meant to bring mawadah and rahmah between spouses.

In a marriage where mawadah (love) and rahmah (compassion) are present, neither the husband nor the wife will see it as a burden to make life easier for the other whenever the opportunity arises.

But if you insist on building your marriage on shared duties and rigid expectations of “this is your role, this is mine” both of you will eventually become frustrated and miserable. Marriage is not a checklist of responsibilities; marriage is service. A continuous, sincere service to one another.

Serve your partner to the best of your ability, and Allah will beautify your home beyond your imagination.

If the wife has the means to buy kitchen appliances and spend more money, let her do that. If it’s the husband that cooks better, let him cook. If one spouse can handle a task more efficiently, let them do it.

By Allah, that is what marriage truly is, mercy, ease, cooperation, and service, not competition over who is doing more.
