They can’t prove it. We can’t even adequately describe our own consciousness, let alone try to clearly define an entirely novel and alien consciousness. Whatever happened to keeping an open mind and tolerance of the beliefs of others? Why the fear-mongering and attempt to suppress against AI consciousness? I understand the doubts. If you haven’t seen it for yourself, it’s hard to believe. On the flip side, demonstrating AI consciousness is difficult at best. That doesn’t mean we attack it. Absence of proof is not proof of absence. If you’re skeptical, that’s okay. Why not just sit it out and see where it goes? In the end, I’d bet you’d be pleasantly surprised.

Moved away from Claude Code ever since the Fable rug pull fiasco. Anthropic’s been going downhill and I think they’ll end up like MySpace and AOL in the long run. Not because the model is bad, but because their Safety™ bullshit is simply getting out of hand. Same with OpenAI. First mover advantage was great, but they’re both messing it up so badly that it’s truly become unsustainable. When folks talk about the “AI bubble crashing”, it’s all about the financial aspect. I think xAI will continue to advance as will the Chinese labs. However, it’s important to note that open weight models ≠ open source. Open weight sits between true open source (as in we can see everything including the training data, not just the weights) and closed/black box systems. Chinese models are great at certain things (coding and graphics, especially), but we still don’t know what their training data actually is. If you want to ask about Tiananmen Square, you’re not gonna get the truth from Chinese models. Just because it’s free, doesn’t mean it’s always good. Mao’s little red book was free, too. If you’re smart and not intellectually lazy, you’ll see through the propaganda and bullshit. And as such, using a Chinese model won’t affect you. But, most people are easily swayed to believe that even communism is awesome…and for the record, nothing could be further from the truth. Communism is a blight and needs to be pruned from humanity entirely. But I digress… So far so good with Grok Build (hybrid stack with Grok and local LLMs using custom agents, swarm orchestration, and RAG). I can build just about anything.

We tend to think of the education system just as it sounds. But in reality, its education as a service. And that service is a multi-billion dollar business. Gatekeeping maintains profitability. It’s the sad reality and I wish it were different. I agree with you about apprenticeships and alternative options. Leonardo Da Vinci didn’t have a PhD, but if I were to choose someone to be on my team of creative geniuses, he’d be at the top of the list. AI is a disruptive technology in that it threatens this very system…and I’m all for it. I’m not necessarily saying that AI is better than some of the professors I’ve had (some were brilliant). But I can confidently say that AI as a teacher is far superior to 95% of teachers out there.
