On the said interview, the boy was speaking about how he & his peers have to work just to put themselves through school, how they sometimes have to starve, & how they’re treated less than human at the mining company.
He was speaking up for everyone, & demanding accountability for the 37 miners who died.

A scholarship abroad was never what he was asking for.

What happens to the rest of the miners? What about the working conditions they’re subjected to? & what about justice for the miners who died?

A scholarship can change one person’s life, but it doesn’t address the system that put all of them in that situation in the first place.

So they took away our sd cards, our memory sticks, and then started charging us for memory to store our data. Then they started taking away our vhs and our dvds and they started charging us to stream movies. Then they took away our little headphone jack and then started charging us all kinds of amounts for apple products to make up for not having that headphone jack. Then they started taking away farmers rights to have seeds so they can't grow certain fruits and vegetables anymore but then they start selling us seedless fruits. Nobody tells you when you’re a kid that one random Sunday at Grandma’s house will eventually be the last time everyone is there at the same time.

The cousins are running in and out of the house.

Somebody’s yelling, “STOP SLAMMING THAT DOOR!”

The adults are sitting around the kitchen table talking about things you couldn’t care less about.

There’s food everywhere.

Someone is asleep in a recliner.

You can hear the TV from the other room.

You’re bored half the time and begging to go home.

And you have absolutely no idea that you are standing inside a memory you will spend the rest of your life wishing you could walk back into.

Then everybody grows up.

The cousins move away.

People get married.

Families get busy.

Grandparents get older.
