#HeritageDay Without Economic Freedom is Meaningless
- The EFF commemorates Heritage Day with a firm rejection of the hollow, symbolic unity that this day now represents. What was once a day rooted in the history of resistance—known as Shaka Day, honouring the visionary leader who united the Zulu nation—is now a diluted celebration of cultural diversity, devoid of any reflection on the real conditions under which our people continue to suffer.
- Today, we are called to celebrate our "heritage" — but what is heritage when millions of our people are landless, unemployed, and systematically excluded from the economy.
- Heritage cannot be reduced to mere braais and costumes. It is the blood from struggle of our ancestors who fought for liberation, a battle we must continue until economic freedom is realised for all.
- Our education system prioritises colonial languages, robbing our children of the power and pride of learning in their mother tongues. This erasure of our linguistic heritage is yet another form of oppression that continues to haunt us.
- Until we expropriate our stolen without compensation, until women and children are free from the chains of violence, until we dismantle the white supremacists structures that keep Africans as beggars in their own land – heritage day remains meaningless.
EFF STATEMENT ON THE POISONING OF PUDEMO PRESIDENT MLUNGISI MAKHANYA
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) condemns the poisoning of PUDEMO President, Comrade Mlungisi Makhanya, who was found incapacitated at his home in South Africa, just weeks before leading pro-democracy protests in Eswatini. This attack is a clear act of aggression by the oppressive Mswati regime, echoing the brutal tactics of apartheid South Africa.
EFF STATEMENT ON RENESTORBERG MUNICIPALITY PENSION THEFT
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) condemns the financial theft by Renestorberg Municipality, Northern Cape, which has led to employees being unable to access their pensions through the two-pot system. The municipality owes R73.5 million in unpaid pension contributions from 2018 to 2023, despite regular deductions from employees’ salaries.
The EFF’s Statement on the Inability of Employees in Renestrorberg Municipality, Northern Cape, to Withdraw Money Using the Two-Pot System Due to Non-Payment of Pension Funds
-We applaud the arrest by the Hawks of two former municipal managers and the current unit manager of Renestorberg Municipality, for fraud, theft, and for contravening the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) and Section 13A of the Pensions Fund Act. In order to resolve this crisis, however, there needs to be a systemic and legislative intervention that will trace all of the financial criminality that has occurred, restructure the entire pension fund system in South Africa and recover the stolen money.
The EFF’s Statement on the Poisoning of PUDEMO President, Comrade Makhanya
-The South African government and the Department of International Relations must take immediate and decisive action to address the grave situation involving the poisoning of President Makhanya. It is imperative that they urgently engage with the ambassador of Eswatini to convey the outrage of the South African people over this blatant violation of our sovereignty by Eswatini’s secret intelligence services.

Eff Statement On The National Prosecuting Authority’s Confirmation That Paul Pretorius And Matthew Chaskalson Are Appointed To Prosecute Zondo Commission Cases
- The NPA in either instance has blatantly lied to the people of South Africa, affirming the EFF that the attempt for unfettered access to sensitive information and evidence by the NPA from the Justice Department is nefarious, and so is the appointment of Pretorius and Chaskalson.
- The EFF demands the immediate reversal of the appointment of Chaskalson and Pretorius as “consultants” within the NPA to prosecute cases related to the evidence and submissions made in the Zondo Commission as this represents a clear conflict of interest, and based on the interview in which the NPA’s Spokesperson told blatant mistruths through his own inconsistencies, is a plot to hand over sensitive data to glorified civilians who are masquerading as consultants.
- The EFF reaffirms that all of this underhanded activity which is at the behest of Shamila Batohi is an attempt by her to salvage a tenure which is characterized by failure and incompetence. Batohi must accept that she has failed dismally at her task, and not try to rescue her reputation by corrupting South Africa’s law enforcement agencies.

EFF VINDICATED AS NPA’S SECRET APPOINTMENT OF PRETORIUS AND CHASKALSON EXPOSED
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is vindicated following the NPA’s covert appointment of Paul Pretorius and Matthew Chaskalson to prosecute Zondo Commission cases, to which we sounded the alarm on last week. This was confirmed by NPA Spokesperson Advocate Mthunzi Mhaga, exposing a hidden conspiracy to allow them access to sensitive information without proper security clearance.

In today’s edition of the Radical Voice, EFF Member of Parliament @Sinawo_Thambo , writes about the conflict of interest caused by the NPA’s decision to hire, as consultants, two advocates who led evidence for the Zondo Commission.
-If anything, it borders on collusion and a clear conflict of interest. Those who are sports-inclined have referred to Pretorius and Chaskalson’s appointment by the NPA to prosecute the evidence they led and developed in the Zondo Commission, as them playing the role of a player and a referee at the same time. Perhaps this sports analogy is more convincing to those who have a distaste towards unfairness and cheating, I don’t know, but it serves its desired effect.

EFF CONDEMNS APPOINTMENTS OF CHASKALSON & PRETORIUS IN THE NPA
The Economic Freedom Fighters strongly condemn the appointment of Matthew Chaskalson and Paul Pretorius as consultants to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). These former evidence leaders of the Zondo Commission are now tasked with advising the NPA on prosecutions related to the same evidence they led, a clear conflict of interest that undermines justice.
