Maybe. I have a lifelong friend (though that is getting very strained) that is a 67 year old liberal, despite all my attempts to gently make him see reason. What I see is a person that lives to rage at “the bad people” that make his life miserable: republicans. It makes him feel like he is part of a cause, a group. He can’t be a conservative because then he’d have to admit that the reasons he is alone, almost friendless, drunk a lot of the time, and living on a fixed income are his own fault. That he cannot do. It’s very sad—he is a miserable wretch that lives life devoid of joy or optimism. But my patience wears thin—it’s like arguing with a parrot that watches MSNOW.
