ATNS rejects claims it is limiting airline operations:

Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) says it has significantly improved operational efficiency at South Africa’s major airports through its Flight Procedure Recovery Programme, restoring most critical instrument flight procedures.

ATNS says O.R. Tambo International Airport is consistently operating at or above its declared departure capacity during peak periods, disputing claims that it is constraining Safair’s growth.

The agency argues that flight delays and taxi times are caused by multiple factors across the aviation system, not ATNS alone.

ATNS also defended the competence of its staff, saying there is no evidence its service delivery has negatively affected Safair’s operations.

It reaffirmed that safety remains its top priority and called on airlines to ensure flight schedules reflect operational realities rather than purely commercial objectives.

ATNS says it remains committed to working with airlines through established industry engagement forums.
