⚡NewsUpdate || “No Justice by Tomorrow, We Will Bring Bodies to Home Minister’s Gate”: Protesters Warn

📍Imphal, September 6: A large number of Naga and Meitei people took to the streets at Khwairamband Keithel on Sunday, demanding justice for the six Naga civilians allegedly killed by Kuki militants, as the final day of the eighth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly approaches tomorrow.

The protest rally was organised by Khwairamband Keithel Ima Sing, Coordination Committee Imphal Area (Joint Tribe Council) and Save Indigenous People of Manipur (SIPOM).

Participants demanded that the government take a concrete decision to ensure justice for the six slain Naga people during the final Assembly sitting. Protesters also expressed dissatisfaction over what they termed the government's failure to take decisive action on the issue.

During the protest, participants warned that if the government fails to deliver justice through a clear decision in tomorrow's concluding Assembly session, the bodies of the six deceased Naga persons, which have reportedly remained at the JNIMS morgue, would be taken to the residence gate of the Home Minister. They further warned of intensified protests if their demands remain unaddressed.

Tension escalated when protesters attempted to proceed in a rally from Khwairamband Keithel and encountered resistance from security forces. A confrontation broke out between the protesters and security personnel.

Following the clash, security forces reportedly fired tear gas shells in an attempt to disperse the protesters and control the situation.

What exactly are the security forces doing? Houses are being burnt in broad daylight while residents sit helplessly in relief camps. When people are forced out of their homes, protecting their property is the duty of the forces. No excuses.

Kanto Sabal lies right next to the 57 Mountain Division, with both central and state forces stationed here. Yet homes continue to burn. If the forces cannot protect property under their very nose, the failure is theirs and the blame cannot be shifted onto the people.

Responsibility must be fixed on the officer in charge of security in this area, without delay. Elements trying to sabotage the peace process are operating freely, and this cannot be tolerated. The culprits must be identified and arrested immediately.

In most democracies, defence institutions are deliberately insulated from partisan politics. Politicians may sometimes attempt to politicise them for publicity or short-term political gains, but that is rarely a healthy development.

Reducing complex security issues to street-level politicking or directing blanket accusations military personnel who operate within a strict chain of command is, in my humble view, little more than political theatre and is utterly futile.

Defence policy is not shaped on the streets. It is framed, debated, negotiated and refined at the highest levels of government, involving multiple stakeholders with competing interests and responsibilities. The relationship between the country(state) and its armed and defence institutions cannot be managed through slogans, outrage or public spectacle. Such displays may provide temporary emotional satisfaction but they seldom produce lasting solutions.

The more effective approach is to engage where decisions are actually made, you know, to actually sit at the high table, understand the complex web of institutional power, present strong and well-reasoned arguments, negotiate practical terms and ultimately embrace pragmatic solutions without losing sight of core principles.

That, in my view, should guide our approach in dealing with the Indian state, Centre-State relations and the country’s armed and defence institutions.

Looking at the hyper-active engagement of the Kuki Narco-Terrorist Cannibals’ propaganda machine on X and other social media platforms, it seems they deliberately sent the three bullet-injured Terrorist Kukis from Leilon Vaiphei, allegedly in coordination with the Indian Army. The narrative has now shifted from the issue of the six butchered Nagas to the three Terrorist Cannibals being brought to a hospital located in the heart of Imphal with heavy security provided for them by the government.

I think, they must have been expecting such a response from the Nagas and Meeteis in the valley. It is also extremely risky for the security forces to bring bullet-injured terrorists into Imphal under the present circumstances.

Questions are:

1. Were the three injured narco-terrorists cannibals operating alongside Indian Army troops during the morning shootout between Konsakhul and Leilon Vaiphei?
2. How, where, and under what circumstances did the Indian Army recover the injured individuals and bring them to Imphal?
3. How could the terrorist cannibals’ frontal organisations, such as Kuki Inpi, KSO, and Leilon Vaiphei, assume that their bullet-injured individuals could be taken to Imphal for treatment by Meetei and Naga Doctors and Nurses while they are accused of blocking and attacking every Meetei and Naga who enters their dominated territories by mistake?
4. Who will be responsible if the three terrorist cannibals fall into the hands of disgruntled Naga and Meetei civilians during their stay in Imphal?
5. Why is social media flooded with posts by Kuki Cannibals regarding the incident at RIMS if they deliberately sent them there for treatment despite the obvious risks involved?
6. Even at this moment, when the three bullet-injured terrorist cannibals are reportedly surrounded by a huge crowd, why do the Kuki propagandists continue posting provocative statements across social media?
7. Are they intentionally inciting violence to create a new narrative that could help suppress the backlash they have been facing since the butchering and eating of the six Naga captives?
8. Why is the government so inactive in handling such a sensitive situation and only limited to police and security measures against angry protesters, rather than taking necessary investigative steps and providing explanations to the general public?
9. Why were the risks to public order, hospital security, patients, doctors, and medical staff not properly assessed before bringing the injured terrorist into the heart of Imphal?
10. Which authority approved the transfer, and who will be held accountable if the situation further deteriorates because of this decision?
11. Why has there been no detailed official explanation regarding the operational circumstances, medical evacuation procedures, and security arrangements connected to this incident?
12. If the situation was foreseeable, why were preventive measures not taken in advance to avoid chaos inside the hospital campus and across Imphal city?
13. Why are the authorities allowing social media narratives and counter-narratives to dominate public discourse instead of providing timely factual briefings and updates?

On the worsening developments that have been unfolding since yesterday, the public deserves clear answers, accountability, and a transparent explanation from all concerned stake holders and authorities.
