Today we wrap up the 2023/24 monitoring season! A sincere thank-you to all who contributed valuable snow and temperature observations from their communities & school yards. Looking forward to reconnecting in the fall for our 5th monitoring season! ❄️🌡️
#TogetherWeKnowSnow
Thanks to all our dedicated SkNOWLEDGE volunteers who spent the winter making careful meteorological observations in their local park or school ground to help us understand broader climate, meteorological, and hydrological processes.❄️

Tonight’s Snow Moon is inspired by snow-covered Canada during the winter season. In fact, 65% of Canada’s land mass has annual snow cover for more than six months of the year. The Snow Moon reached peak fullness at 7:30 am ET & will appear full in the night sky.

💡Did you know that Canada is warming at nearly twice the global average rate, with winter temperatures warming faster than those of any other season? @protectwintersc

We have two exciting winter environmental monitoring projects. #SkNOWLEDGE involves monitoring local snowfall, while our #iNaturalist project involves monitoring local biodiversity. Volunteer as much time as you like, submitting as many observations as you are able to.
Dive into the world of #SnowScience with @SkNOWLEDGECo! 🌨️ Submitting your snow observations is as easy as 1-2-3. 📝Gather your materials, record your observations, and submit them to #SkNOWLEDGECollective. You can access your data and more through their interactive map! ❄️
Happy #WinterSolstice! 🌎🌄❄️
Astronomical winter officially starts at 10:27 pm EST, marking the longest night in the Northern Hemisphere. Enjoy a year-long visual journey with daily images from @NOAA's #GOESEast 🛰️, showing the changing seasons due to Earth's 23.5° tilt.
From all of us to you, wishing you a restful holiday season filled with joy & SkNOWLEDGE!
To our partners & participants: Thank you for being part of the SkNOWLEDGE Collective & sharing your curiosity & discoveries about snow.

@SkNOWLEDGECo and @EcoSpark need your help collecting local snow data this winter! 📏🌡️ Using a ruler and thermometer and engaging in hands-on fun making snowballs, you’ll record your observations on a simple data sheet and submit them to https://t.co/WHLNzXtqLq. ☃️❄️
Do you enjoy making snowballs? ☃️ Would you like to contribute meaningful data to science?
#SkNOWLEDGE is the perfect winter #CitizenScience project for you! ❄️ Using simple tools, record your local meteorological data, and upload it to the interactive map!
At the height of summer, exposed Arctic Ocean water absorbs 9 times more solar radiation than sea ice does. Before ice can form again in the fall, the ocean must release the absorbed heat into the atmosphere, contributing to Arctic amplification. https://t.co/JF2am7iYTG
How does earlier snow❄️ melt affect recreational access to alpine 🏔️environments, read on here:

Today signals the end of the 2022/23 monitoring season! Head outside for your last observations of the season 🌡️🌤️Reflecting on 2022/23, we are grateful to all our participants new & returning, along with our 1st season partnering w/
@EcoSpark_Env in the GTA. See you in November!
Teaching Climate? The "Climate around the World" activity introduces students to global climate patterns by having each student collect information about the climate in a particular region of the globe and share that data in class.
