About 55 percent of people accept the very first salary number they are offered. No counter. No question.
That silence is the most expensive of their careers. A five thousand dollar gap at the start compounds into six or seven hundred thousand over forty years, because every future raise is a percentage of that first figure.
The number is never final. They only say it like it is.
Say something back.
Good things come to those who wait.
Time heals all wounds.
It will happen in the process of time.
All of it is a fallacy. I call it the Wait Fallacy.
Time is a recorder. It measures the gap between two events. It does not make anything happen. Your bank account does not create money, it only records what is there.
Action causes the reaction. Never time.
Stop waiting for a date on a calendar to come and rescue you.
@HOD001ofnaija God will never deliver you into the hands of the enemies. Lol you suppose know say dem go worry you small for there based on your portfolio
The company I worked in had 3 rounds of layoffs in my 10 years there.
Here are my observations in general
1. If your department is getting too big with many people being recruited, be careful. During layoff, your department’s hair may be the first to be shaved. There were only 2 of us in tax. About the only department not affected in all the three rounds. A number game.
2. If you are doing same work and your pay is continuously rising due to general annual payrises over time, egungun be careful. A young guy that will do that work for less your pay and grow may be favoured during layoff
3. If you are in Admin and other less technical roles, be careful. Especially if your pay is high
4. If you have had issue with a senior Oga before, be careful
5. If you have great interpersonal skills, it may save you. Grapevine had it that someone was in the layoff list until the eve of the layoff day was spared because of this soft skill. Name removed and they were posted to another department where their non-technical but human skill was considered a strength.
6. If you are multi-talented, it may save you. If you’re an accountant, for example, be the MC at your corporate event, volunteer for roles, participate in other activities. Don't likit yourself to accounting job.
7. Corporate institutional memory residing in you may also save you. You led an ERP change process? You led a major project? You’re the go-to for some fixes? But this may not be enough if a younger guy that worked with you is considered ripe enough.
8. Finally, plenty bootlicking . But not always enough. In fact, it may work against you if power changes hands and the camp you have been bootlicking are gradually eased out. I know someone stuck in one role because of this.
I first posted this last year.
Unpopular Opinion
UNILAG is special only because of its geographical positioning, while OAU is great mainly because of the activities, substance , quality, content and architectural structures within the four walls of the institution.
- Tosin Eniolorunda (Moniepoint’s CEO) - OAU
- Razaq Ahmed (Cowrywise’s CEO) - OAU
- Yinka Adewale (Nomba CEO) - OAU
- Olaoluwa Awojoodu (BeniPay’s CEO) - OAU
- Femi Aluko (Chowdeck’s CEO) - OAU
- Kelvin Umechukwu (Bumpa’s CEO) - OAU
- Ayodeji Adewunmi, Opeyemi Awoyemi & Olalekan Olu (Jobberman) - OAU.
The list is endless even in finance! Most of these guys started and even accessed funding while on campus.
I don’t know how OAU does it but they shamed my theory that location is a major determinant of exposure to opportunities and information.
✉️🇦🇷 Leo Messi’s letter.
“𝑳𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒍 𝑴𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊’𝒔 𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓. ❤️🩹🥺
The pain is immense, it will take time for this wound to heal.
But I also choose to hold on to all the good things, all matches we turned around by giving everything and moments that will remain in our memories forever.
I will always remember the support of an entire country that, together with the work and effort of this group, brought us back once again among the best teams in the world.
Today, it is difficult to appreciate what we achieved… but this group has really reached two consecutive World Cup finals.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for every greeting and every message.
Once again, we managed to come together as a country and stand united, sharing the immense pride of being Argentine.
I also want to congratulate Spain on winning World Cup”. 🇪🇸
This morning Madrid woke up singing and Buenos Aires woke up quiet. Both of them earned it.
Spain were the better side across the month and deserved the final. Argentina were not embarrassed. They ran into a team playing the best football in the world.
As for Messi, one flat night does not audit a career.
919 career goals. 8 Ballon d'Ors, more than anyone who has ever played. 21 World Cup goals, a record. 418 assists, the most in the history of the sport. 672 goals for Barcelona alone, where he arrived at thirteen and stayed twenty one years.
Loyalty means staying long enough for the numbers to become unarguable.
