Any carpenter knows the trick here is in the energy input via shaking.

Shake just a little, the order doesn’t form if the nails don’t move enough.

Shake with the right amount of force and a little back and forth movement and they will align.

Shake really hard and the nails will stay disorganized and may even fly out, no order.

It’s only under the right energy input via shaking does the desired outcome happen.

Also it should be noted that in the experiment, this order from disorder relies on pre-existing fine-tuned elements set up by an intelligent agent (the experimenter).

The nails are manufactured with specific shapes and materials, the container is designed to constrain motion, and the shaking is deliberately controlled to hit that right energy zone.

So this simply raises the question. In nature, who or what fine-tunes those initial conditions, physical laws, and energy sources to allow self-organization?
