Little girls who have no voice and no power are cut and sewn shut because that’s what Muslims believe to be purity. FGM is performed while the girls are awake. They suffer unimaginable pain and it affects them negatively all throughout their lives. Calling FGM a cultural practice and allowing it to still happen in the 21st century is a crime of its own.

An estimated 230 million girls and women are survivors of FGM today with the numbers rising because this practice is still ongoing in many countries, including western countries like the US and Canada.
