The 39 number isn't 39 Columbine-style school attacks. It's Education Week's count of shootings causing injury or death on school property during school or school events. More than a third happened at sporting events. Only ONE met the Gun Violence Archive definition of a mass shooting.

And the broader K-12 database doesn't count shootings merely “close to a school.” It counts gunfire, intentional brandishing, or bullets hitting school property, and openly tells you that it includes fights, gang violence, suicides, accidents, domestic violence, etc.

Those aren't two definitions the “anti-gun lobby” switches between when convenient. They're different datasets measuring different things, with their methodologies published for anyone to read.

The interesting part is that when you actually separate types of school gun violence, the racial patterns change substantially. Which is precisely why collapsing all of it into “Black people commit the school shootings we're being warned about” is statistically illiterate.

Here's what's missing from this comparison: 95.6% of those Canadian MAID patients had a natural death that was already “reasonably foreseeable.” They were overwhelmingly elderly people approaching death from serious medical conditions.

Meanwhile, approximately 0% of American firearm-homicide victims were scheduled to be murdered.

You're comparing end-of-life medical decisions for dying patients to people being shot to death by someone else. The fact that you found two similar numbers doesn't make those remotely comparable phenomena.
