Coventry City’s finances, explained with actual numbers. PSR, transfer budgets, what we can really afford. Reads the accounts so you don’t have to. PUSB.
@henrywinter Do players gather more character and persistence when they succeed through this route? Rather than the silver spoon treatment at an elite academy.
Doug King’s Big £50m decision, Feb 2027.
Buried in our ownership structure is a £50m owner loan, unsecured, interest-free. It matures mid-season, year one back in the PL.
No one can force repayment. King controls both ends. But he has to choose:
→ Roll it over = kick the can
→ Convert to equity = bullish. Permanent capital, open door for investors
→ Repay from PL cash back to Doug= £50m out of the war chest.
Doug is a smart operator, he’s already made his decision. But fans won’t find out until after the winter transfer window. The early sign is the size of the transfer budget between now and then.
@TheCovReport The analysis demonstrates that making a few extra bucks from existing hospitality areas won’t buy you ‘premier league players’. Do the math; if 2000 seats pay an extra £1000 that’s £2m. Who you buying in the PL for £2m?
Why hammer loyal fans?
‘Hospitality’ at the CBS is mostly working people on local wages.
Coventry will bank £160m+ in the Premier League next season — around 5x last season’s entire revenue, including TV money and sharply increased commercial revenue streams. We estimate season ticket sales will represent ~8% of total revenue next season
Club Coventry: £900 → £2,400 (+167%)
Legends: £900 → £1,560 (+73%)
Fans in these areas are not being given an opportunity to downgrade to ‘normal’ season tickets.
This squeeze raises loose change and costs goodwill. Makes no sense and feels like a rare mistake by Doug King. #PUSB
£25m: the limit for Rushworth.
Brighton rejected Coventry’s club-record £20m bid and reportedly want more. But £25m is the ceiling — not a penny higher.
The Ledger estimates a summer budget of ~£50-70m. Absolute maximum spending power for;
-Centre forward: £30m
-Centre half: £20m
-Left back: £15m
That’s £65m of signings before a keeper and before other squad strengthening.
And don’t be surprised at a high profile departure or 2 to raise more funds.
The budget can’t stretch beyond £25m, however much the SBA love him.
