Five months later, the LaGuardia collision is still producing ugly details. 🔴

On the night of 22 March 2026, Air Canada Express 8646 — Jazz CRJ-900 C-GNJZ from Montreal — touched down on wet Runway 4 at LGA around 23:37.

Seconds later it hit Rescue 35, an Oshkosh Striker ARFF truck crossing at Taxiway D while responding to a separate United 737 MAX emergency near Terminal B. ✈️🚒

The nose and cockpit were torn apart. Both pilots were killed. A flight attendant near the front was thrown onto the pavement. 39 people were injured, six seriously, including the two firefighters in the truck. The jet ended up sitting tail-high on the wet tarmac; the fire truck was flipped and wrecked. LGA shut down for hours. 🛑

Controllers had cleared the truck across the active runway, then started shouting “Stop, stop, stop!” Surface detection did not generate a timely alert. NTSB investigation remains open.

Now this: two tower controllers allegedly walked off about an hour before their shift ended that night. The two who stayed had no backup while traffic ran heavier than planned. The FAA is considering firing them over timesheet fraud. Both are already on leave. ⚠️

Santos Dumont didn’t get a quiet Thursday. ✈️

An Embraer Phenom 100 (PS-VEE) left the pavement on landing at SDU around 16:10 local on 27 August and ended up in the grass. Two people on board pilot and one crew. No injuries. ✅

The airport’s emergency plan kicked in, fire crews and CENIPA showed up, and the field stayed shut while they worked the recovery.

Night crane lift onto a flatbed, straps around the fuselage and wing, then the jet rolled out on a truck. Operations resumed around 23:00 roughly seven hours of disruption. 🛑🚧

The knock-on effect was ugly for a downtown airport already running tight slots: later counts put cancellations above 70 with about 15 diversions to Galeão. Ponte aérea traffic took a hit. 📉

Early talk pointed at a possible landing-gear problem. CENIPA is investigating; nothing official yet. 🔎

Dramatic night at LAX 🔥✈️

A DHL 737-800 freighter (Kalitta Charters II, KII1814 from Phoenix) touched down at Los Angeles International when the brakes locked up.

Seconds later a tire exploded and the left main gear burst into flames as the aircraft rolled out. ATC immediately sent another arrival around.

ARFF crews were on scene within moments, hitting the burning wheels with water and foam. Alert 2 was declared. No injuries reported. The runway was temporarily closed.

Pilot to tower: “I don’t know if we blew a tire, but it feels like the brakes locked up.”

FAA says four tires failed after the lockup.

⚠️ NORTHERN ITALY — TWO KILLED AFTER GYROCOPTER HITS DAM CABLES

Wednesday, 26 August 2026, around 11:10–11:30 local time.

A two-seat yellow autogyro / gyrocopter was flying a scenic pass over Valle Antrona when it struck the Enel service cableway linking Lake Camposecco to the Campliccioli Dam in Antrona Schieranco (Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Piedmont — near the Swiss border).

On impact the rotor/prop hit the cables. The aircraft became what the mayor called “a ball of fire”, then fell toward the dam face and Lake Campliccioli at about 1,350–1,400 m.

Both people on board died at the scene.

👤 Antonella Pagliarani, 63, of the Milan area — passenger, his sister-in-law

They had taken off from the Megolo airfield at Pieve Vergonte to fly over a protected trekking valley. Relatives were nearby; local reports say the pilot’s brother witnessed the crash.

🚁 Not a helicopter. An autogyro uses an unpowered rotor for lift and a propeller for thrust. It is popular for low, slow mountain sightseeing which is also why unmarked or hard-to-see service cables are so dangerous.

🚒 Firefighters from VCO, the Drago helicopter from Malpensa, 118 air rescue from Borgosesia and Alpine Rescue all responded. There was nothing they could do for the occupants.

Italian authorities are investigating altitude, flight path and why the aircraft met the Enel cables. The video audio is witnesses calling 112.

⚠️ HOW THE NEPAL–TIBET DISASTER UNFOLDED

This morning’s flood was not a normal monsoon surge. There was little to no rain on the Nepal side when it hit.

The suspected sequence:

1️⃣ A M4.4 earthquake was recorded around 08:37 local time near the Tibet–Nepal border.

2️⃣ Minutes later, a large ice–rock avalanche appears to have broken off a high Himalayan glacier and crashed into the Lhende Khola.

3️⃣ The debris likely blocked the river, then failed. A sudden wall of water, ice, mud and rock tore downstream into the Bhotekoshi / Bhote Koshi, then toward the Trishuli.

4️⃣ On the Trishuli, water rose by as much as ~9 metres in 30 minutes. That is outburst-flood speed, not rainfall flood speed.

• Nepal: Rasuwa (Syabrubesi, Timure), then Nuwakot / Dhading

• China: Gyirong Port (Jilong) in Tibet the land crossing opposite Rasuwa

That is why the CCTV looks so sudden: people in a parking lot one second, a debris wave the next.

⚠️ Secondary risk: debris is still lodged upstream on the Lhende Khola. Another surge is possible.

This same corridor flooded about 14 months ago. Scientists say a warming Himalaya is making ice-rock collapses and glacial floods more frequent and early warning is still thin in these valleys.

Rescue teams are moving in from both sides. Weather, 1.5 m of sediment and broken roads are slowing them.

BREAKING: A major flash-flood disaster has hit Nepal’s Rasuwa district, near the border with Tibet/China, after an event early Wednesday morning caused catastrophic flooding along the Trishuli and Bhotekoshi river systems.

According to preliminary information presented by Nepal’s Foreign Minister, an earthquake struck the area at around 08:37 local time, apparently triggering an avalanche that then caused a sudden release of water and severe flash flooding.

Authorities are still verifying the exact chain of events, so this remains preliminary.

The flooding has caused major damage on both the Nepalese and Chinese sides of the border. On the Nepalese side, Rasuwa and Nuwakot appear to be among the worst affected areas.
At least 17 people have been confirmed dead in Nepal, while dozens remain missing.

Nepalese authorities say 26 police officers, nine Armed Police Force personnel and 44 military personnel are currently missing, alongside customs and immigration officials.

The damage to infrastructure is extensive. Authorities report that at least 19 bridges and around 40 kilometres of roads have been damaged, while multiple hydropower projects have also been affected. The Independent Power Producers’ Association of Nepal says 13 hydropower projects in Rasuwa and Nuwakot were damaged.
The important Rasuwagadhi border crossing with China has been closed, with reports that roads, bridges and customs infrastructure were swept away.

More than 200 cargo trucks are believed to have been caught in the flooding, while many workers remain unaccounted for.

There are also serious concerns about people trapped or missing at hydropower projects. Around 60 workers at the 20 MW Langtang Khola hydropower project in Syafrubesi have reportedly gone missing.

The disaster is also affecting tourists. Nepal’s Tourism Board says 291 foreign tourists and 93 Nepali nationals were reported unreachable following the flooding. Rasuwa is an important route for pilgrims traveling toward Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet, as well as trekkers visiting the Langtang region.

On the Chinese side, Chinese state media are reporting major casualties from a mudslide at a trade hub in Tibet, with President Xi Jinping ordering all-out search and rescue efforts and stronger monitoring to prevent secondary disasters.
Nepal says it is coordinating with China as rescue operations continue.

This is still a developing disaster. The number of casualties and missing people is expected to change as rescue teams reach areas that have been cut off, and the full extent of the damage is not yet known.

Not a helium “space jump” like Baumgartner. This was a hot-air balloon at the edge of the stratosphere.

That makes the engineering even wilder.

Hard landing for the Night Stalkers 🚁
A U.S. Army MH-60 Black Hawk from the elite 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment made an unplanned landing in the Colorado foothills west of Denver on Tuesday.

The helicopter came down in a wooded area on Thorodin Mountain, north of Golden Gate Canyon State Park. All four crew members walked away uninjured. No fire or fuel leak was reported.

The Army described it as an aviation mishap during routine training and has opened a safety investigation.

Video from the scene shows heavily damaged rotor blades the crew was extremely fortunate to walk away from this one.

Cirrus SR22 crash in Brazil – pilot saved by CAPS parachute

This morning a privately owned Cirrus SR22 (PR-VMI) suffered an in-flight failure followed by a partial explosion and fire while en route from Belo Horizonte (Pampulha) to Bom Despacho.

The 29-year-old pilot, the only person on board, activated the aircraft’s ballistic parachute system (CAPS). The plane came down under canopy in a wooded area near Mateus Leme, Minas Gerais.

The pilot survived with only minor injuries and was transferred to a hospital in Belo Horizonte. The aircraft continued to burn after impact and was largely destroyed.
CENIPA is investigating the cause of the failure.

Another reminder of how effective the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System can be in a real emergency.

🚨 Winds gone wild at Forlì Airport!

Powerful storm hit Forlì “Luigi Ridolfi” Airport in Italy on August 21 with gusts over 100 km/h (some reports near 120 km/h).

🚨 Incredible skill!

A 23-year-old pilot just ditched her Piper PA-30 into the Atlantic right off a crowded Boca Raton beach… and walked away unharmed.

Faith Tenkley was flying solo from Fort Myers to Bimini to pick up her parents when mechanical issues hit (engine + landing gear problems).

Instead of risking a hard landing on the runway with fuel still on board, she calmly chose the water near South Beach Park, dodged buildings and paddleboarders, and put the plane down smoothly.

Beachgoers watched in shock as the plane came in low, hit the water, and began to sink. Lifeguards reached her within a minute.

Pilot: uninjured.
