Alternative/New Wave music from North-West England. Occasionally performs live, always with a guitar. Obsessed with coconut, baklava and large bath towels.
The new Sky Patterns album 'Night Call' is out now.
An album that reaches deep into nocturnal territory β a world of half-spoken fears, flickering thoughts, and the uneasy sense of life seen through dim light

@UncleFunkbeard The only thing I disagree with him on is the '10 times' comment. The truth is that it can spit out an entire catalogue for an 'artist' while you're eating your cornflakes - and have 50,000 other artists' catalogues done by dinner. They're simply aiming for complete suffocation.
@UncleFunkbeard I'm presenting a talk on songwriting next week at a local place, so I've been steadily pulling together lots of ideas - including some of the ones that I mentioned but many others too.
I can recommend this book too by the singer of Wilco, it's a great read with lots of ideas.
@UncleFunkbeard Play with the phrasing and/or the positioning of lyrics - and consider holding notes, repetition, rhyming etc. Often, stretching a word makes the song more memorable - or repeating a phrase. The important takeaway is to get out of your comfort zone and try something different.
@UncleFunkbeard I'd encourage you to try out different ideas. Create a blank chorus-sized gap in the DAW, move the chorus bassline to the 5th or -2nd, then play something on a different synth sound over the top - or pick up a different instrument to get you out of your comfort zone. /...cont'd
@UncleFunkbeard In terms of 'more difficult', it can depend. There are certainly times that I've had to step away, put the music on the shelf because the ideas just won't come, then often I'll come up with an idea in the following hours or days. Walking away is almost like a secret weapon.
@UncleFunkbeard It's a good question - the songs often start from various different places, sometimes the chorus, sometimes a melody line, riff, synth sound, or bassline. That's the beauty of how I write in that I don't always know where the song will go, but I develop it to discover.
A couple of great shots taken by @ispegi on Thursday evening at the Penny4YT Project event where I played several new songs. Such a great evening surrounded by lots of great musicians.
I've mentioned about this before on Twitter, but it's so cool. The new Phoebe Bridgers album has a song in the pregap.
Not every modern CD player can read them - but if you use the Exact Audio Copy (EAC) app on a PC, then you can access the hidden track and rip it to FLAC/WAV.
