I want to chip in on the current drama and give my perspectives. Not here to call anyone out but I genuinely want to hear if we all can't agree at least on this way of thinking? When you have a following, people listen to what you say. Small or big, it doesn't matter. So when you tell people "don't gamble", and then you take money to promote gambling, that's not just a bad look. You're telling everyone who listened to you that your words don't actually mean anything. They were just words, until the price was right. A lot of people in this community are young. Teenagers. Guys in their early 20s still figuring things out. I've hung out with many of them - amazing individuals. And when they see someone flip their own advice for money, the lesson isn't "gambling is fine." The lesson is: principles are for sale, if the number is big enough. Please read that last paragraph again. I believe that's a very slippery slope. And hope we all can agree that's a bad thing to teach anyone. Especially someone young with less life experience. And it's not only about the people watching. It's about you too who sell out on your principles. If you say "trust me" for years and then break that the second it's "profitable", something changes in you as well. It gets easier next time. And the time after that. Your moral compass is suddenly flipped upside down. This isn't about hating on people for needing money. Everyone needs money and I fully understand that sometimes you can get into financial struggles. Many of us have been there. But even then we cannot sell out our principles, our soul, for that. It's about the difference between just changing your mind, and then loudly selling a principle you were never really going to keep. If you have a platform, the bar isn't "never be wrong." It's "don't sell what you don't mean." Because the people watching you, especially the youngsters, aren't learning from what you say. They're learning from what you're willing to drop once it's inconvenient! Anyone who knows me also knows that I don't really go into drama or fights, but this topic sits close to me as I believe we all have a responsibility to one another - and how we act as human beings. I have had deep care for the CS community, and while it indeed has faded away from its prior fun corner of Twitter, we cannot use that as another argument to do worse, sell out and create slop. Look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself if you would be proud of what you are doing, and how you influence the girl or guy next to you. Still appreciate many people in this space, still love CS - and I'm for sure still building on my collection! I’m here for the love of the game and pixels. Be good ffs!
