Two veteran lawyers have been appointed to lead #Somaliland’s principal legal institutions: Mowlid Abdi Muse as Attorney General and Mohamoud Hussein Farah as Solicitor General. Mohamoud served for many years as Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Hargeisa, while Mowlid headed the Attorney General’s Office in Hargeisa, the busiest prosecution office in Somaliland. Given their extensive experience, we expect them to pursue a reform-oriented approach, particularly by strengthening respect for the civil liberties, freedoms and rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

We are delighted to announce that the crowdfunding campaign for the #CHILD-#PEACE project has successfully concluded. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our donors, we exceeded our €30,000 target! Together, 182 generous donors contributed an incredible €35,325. Every donation contributes to a project studying how children in conflict-affected areas, specifically Gaza, Sool/Sanaag, and Nagorno Karabakh/ Artsakh, can be involved in peacebuilding activities.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who donated, shared the campaign or encouraged others to support it. Thank you.

Although the crowdfunding campaign has now closed, our journey continues. We aim to raise at least €150,000 to support a full-time PhD student and fund field research and activities for field research and societal impact in all three areas.

I strongly condemn the arrest of prominent Somaliland poet Ismail Jiheeye, who was taken into custody this morning. Poet Jiheeye recently made a complaint against the President of Somaliland, @Abdirahmanirro accusing him of alleged land-grabbing. Instead of addressing his grievances, authorities arrested him. The arrest violates Somaliland's constitution and clearly shows an abuse of power.
I call on the Somaliland government to release Ismail Jiheeye and refrain from abusing state power for personal interest.

The Criminal Investigation Department of the #Somaliland Police summoned the spokesperson of the main opposition. This is the latest in a series of people the CID has summoned for saying something the government dislikes. The politicisation of the police to suppress the opposition and independent voices is a concern.
