On The David Letterman Show in 2000, Oasis perform I Can See a Liar as their harder edged sound crossed onto American late night television. The song appeared on Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, released earlier that year, an album that marked a reset after Britpop excess and pushed the band toward a tougher, more stripped approach. Built around sharp riffs and confrontational attitude, performances like this captured Oasis in transition, when Manchester swagger met a darker, post nineties rock mood on a global stage.
