I was a junior Web Developer in 2016.
3 years later:
- I found my dream job
- Senior Web Dev
- $250K+ salary
- Make money online using programming skills
Here's what you should STOP doing
[A Thread ⏰]
True - and to make you happy by making money online, you need:
- Internet connection
- Laptop
- Skills in demand (e.g., writing, graphic design, coding)
- Consistent work ethic
..and same is true for ecom business!
Listing products on Etsy daily is just the beginning.
The real challenge? Keeping your shop thriving for 6 months straight.
Elements of a killer email:
1. Subject line that sells the open
2. Preview text that sells the open
3. Headline that sells reading the body
4. Body that sells the click
5. CTA(s) that ask for click
Nail all of these, and you'll print cash.
I've got 5 out of this list - and here's my own list for you:
- "Crushing It!" by Gary Vaynerchuk
- "You Are a Badass at Making Money" by Jen Sincero
- "Dotcom Secrets" by Russell Brunson
- "Building a StoryBrand" by Donald Miller
Some audiobook recommendations:
The Story of Civilization by Durant
Iliad (Penguin Edition)
The Road to Serfdom by Hayek
American Caesar by Manchester
Masters of Doom by Kushner
The Wages of Destruction by Tooze
The Storm of Steel by Junger
The Guns of August by Tuchman
The Gallic Wars by Caesar
Twelve Against the Gods by Bolitho
Genghis Khan by Weatherford
The first one on the list will take a while to get through, but is very much worthwhile.
Admittedly, this is a list that appeals to those who think about Rome every day.
I hope someone makes an audiobook of The Encyclopedia of Military History by Dupuy and The Fifteen Decisive Battles of the World by Creasy.
Great stuff - here's what I would add on to this:
- Automate workflows using Zapier
- Join online communities and build network
- Learn online ads
- Learn SEO
Things I didn’t know before starting my business:
-Importance of a domain
-Being approved as an LLC
-Getting an EIN
-Need of business credit card / checking
-Learning QuickBooks
-Email list being 11/10 critical
-Email deliverability
-Power of lead magnets
-Knowing when you need to outsource things (logo, design, etc.)
Best move was to just get started.
What else am I missing?
My biggest, why the f**k did I not do this earlier, by years:
2024 - TSA pre check
2023 - LASIK surgery
2022 - Buy a great water bottle
2021 - Standing desk
2020 - Amazing pillow
2019 - Tailored all my pants
What should be on my radar for 2025?
🎯 How to get more things done?
1) Make a list of things you want to do
2) Break those things down into smaller task
3) Assign a date/time to each task
4) Find a buddy to hold you accountable
5) Set boundaries
6) Delegate as much as possible
7) Reward yourself
8) Get started!
Today - select a person who inspires you the most
Are they charming? creative? smart?
They are not!
They are just more disciplined with greater courage to put themselves out there.
They are willing to go that extra mile to get things done - are you?
- Numbers and statistics are important
- don't just say "I do a lot for this company"
- prove it with data
- Take the final decision positively
- learn from the discussions
- Prepare yourself better for the next time
Some quick tips if you are planning to negotiate salary:
- Work towards a win-win situation
- Provide value before you ask salary hike
- 6 months before reviews do something that truly wows your manager
- And then highlight it when negotiating
