No need to be an AnCap to realise that price controls generally have distortionary effects, and not just in unemployment. As Clemens (2020) shows, wages and salaries make up only about 70% of all compensation costs, and the rest are in insurance, paid leave, nonpecuniary benefits. What this means is that fringe benefits can be reduced to offset the costs of the wage, as you can see the difference between the wages equal the reduction of nonpecuniary costs. This obviously is worse off for the worker, and empirically Gooptu and Simon (2019), and Clemens, Kahn, and Meer (2018) respectively demonstrate that minimum wages and employer-provided health insurance are negatively correlated, and that "declines in the provision of employer-provided health insurance have offset roughly 15 percent of the cost of states’ recent minimum wage increases." Liu (2020) finds that workers in mismatched jobs will attempt to search for better ones, but raising the wage compresses the wage distribution and the differential between their current wage and the wage earned through switching lower. Liu (2024) discovered that tighter monitoring and more restrictive contracts were positively correlated with minimum wage increases.
With respect to long-run poverty and unemployment the effects are also marginal at best. Using a diff-in-diff Burkhauser et al. (2023) demonstrated that a 10% increase in the minimum wage led to a statistically insignificant 0.17% increase in the probability of long-run poverty, and that studies that show significant decrease in poverty (Dube 2019) show that his usage of state unemployment rate and per capita state controls and his usage of geographically proximate states as a counterfactual impacted the results quite significantly. The reason poverty is not well-impacted is because most working-age individuals living in poor families are not currently employed, most low-wage workers do not live in poor families (only less than 10% do)and the effects of redistribution on lower-income workers are mixed at best. Neumark (2018) also demonstrated that (especially for the US) minimum wages reduce the jobs available for low-skilled workers. Clemens and Strain (2021) showed additionally that large increases in the minimum wage were more impactful in the medium-run and reduced employment by around 4%. And there are also administrative costs, e.g. tracking regional rates, reclassifying workers, searching for exempt workers, restructuring costs etc.
So all-in-all I find it very hard to believe that minimum wage could be unambiguously good. At best the effects on certain metrics it is supposed to improve are minimal and the effects on others are ambiguous; at worst it is actively detrimental.
@to72822 ??
@Physicrodrigo_@Cancheriski@resistenciahpl@Angela1475861 Meu deus jajaja.
@Physicrodrigo_@Cancheriski@resistenciahpl@Angela1475861 Gordo, eres mexa.

An “Austrian”-based theory of industrial organisation? It would seem impossible, but apparently some economists have found certain insights of the Austrian School worthwhile for discussing business strategy. I felt the need to discuss this interesting argument, being an Austrian myself.
