Vice is a monster of so frightful mien/As, to be hated, needs but to be seen/Yet seen too oft, familiar with her face/We first endure, then pity, then embrace.
@umlaut@ZInterloper @313formation True, but to some degree *every* promotion path is stupid. Excellent employees get promotion after promotion after promotion untill they end up in a job where they don't function properly anymore (and then often remain stuck, unhappy, yet bound by golden cuffs)
The Syrian Islamist rebels have kidnapped a large group of Kurdish women in Tell Rifaat, Aleppo.
This is no different than what ISIS did to Yazidi women and Hamas did to Israeli women.
@SridharNotAkela @Olliert1@chinesegon If you're going to correct a non native speaker, at least use some proper language yourself. What are you, a street urchin?
@justksthings3 @datepsych@wil_da_beast630 Maybe I can become anything but after reading this information all I am is shocked. I mean, the average scientist has 15 IQ points less than me?๐ฌ
@ZInterloper @313formation Nah, now imagine:
> Engineer is great at technical work
> Gets promoted to managerial position
> Isn't cut for it; everyone unhappy
Much worse.
@TheAnalytic @Mercian_Man A lot, and yet it should. It's such a shallow concept. Certainly not a fit framework for a PhD level analysis. The fact that you can writhe a thesis trough an intersectional lense and get zero remarks says it all.
@BestCryptids The story matches near exact the report of Col. F. Fowler, who lived for 12 years in Alaska, from 1877-1889. He mentioned a trade of fresh tusks from two mammoths, who were killed by the tribe three months prior.

@janchenoweth@MoreBirths Working mothers are not a new phenomenon either. Ofcourse a large family and a 9-5 job at the office don't combine well, but with todays possibilities to work from home at flexible times, it's just as "easy" as in the past โwhen mothers spun, sewed, braided and weaved at home.
@janchenoweth@MoreBirths Not really a big point if you consider that fathers currently have a bigger role in parenting and upbringing than in any moment of history before, when TFR's were significantly higher than now.
@MoreBirths Good point. Bigger families foster efficiency and economies of scale, and will help to build strong and stable communities. which makes them preferable from a social and economic perspective. Bigger families should be celebrated instead of frowned up on.
@RdHdSteppeson@wizardofux@nosilverv There isn't a single premise. There exist a lot of different variants and one is no more valid than the other (they're all made up). You must have missed them.
