@BobbyBorkIII My guess is you aren’t really a stickler for punishing all those who violate traffic laws. For what fraction of your driving miles are you below the speed limit?
@dilanesper If 100% tax is a taking, any tax is a taking. Takings only happen when something specific is taken. So if income of $1M generates a tax liability of $1M, you could pay that out of other money, so it isn't a taking.
@dilanesper And while I recognize that these are young people who are struggling, and that participation in girls’ sports would likely be a bright spot in their lives because it would be a place where they are likely to excel, I still think that the fairness aspect outweighs that.
@mllichti@conor64 And grants to states and local governments are $1.2 trillion. And don't forgot grants to universities and non-profits, which I can't find a number on. But keep beating this dead horse. It was a joke anyway.
@mllichti@conor64 Procurements are about $750 billion. If you take the statement literally - "if the only dollars that went out of the treasury went to individuals...", that would include money that went through corporations to individuals, and is larger than the deficit. It was a joke anyway.
@ddiamond@mattyglesias 3 in thirteen months means he’s probably targeting twice a year, but was a bit late fitting it in. Without more specific information, that seems reasonable.
@BlckEyesNseBlds@RichardHanania It has not existed without foreigners. Let me ask you a question. What is the probability that the most intelligent baby born this year is born in the United States?
