April 9th we celebrated Class of 2022! We will miss their guidance & charisma. SLU SNMA wishes them the best as they go off to change patients’ lives! 🎉🎓
Before my teen patient was discharged today, her & her mom told me she wants to be a doctor & get her grades up b/c of me. Me!? Said they’d never seen a black doctor nor had they felt seen or heard by one before meeting me 2 days ago. It’s only day 4 of clinicals. Love it here.
Simply put: a decrease in black male physicians is an increase in black patient death.
Thank you to everyone who came out last night to view the documentary Black Men in White Coats & discuss this threat to black patients’ health!
“In 1978, 1,410 black men applied to medical school and 542 ended up enrolling. In 2014, both numbers were down — 1,337 applied & 515 enrolled.” - NPR
After 40+ years, why have the numbers gotten worse instead of better for Black men?

Join us this Sunday, March 28th for this month’s #MedTableTalk!
What do y’all think? As URMs is it our job to take care of our underserved communities or is it okay to just treat our patients? 🤔 Hope to see you there!
