Before my teen patient was discharged today, her & her mom told me she wants to be a doctor & get her grades up b/c of me. Me!? Said they’d never seen a black doctor nor had they felt seen or heard by one before meeting me 2 days ago. It’s only day 4 of clinicals. Love it here.

Simply put: a decrease in black male physicians is an increase in black patient death.

“In 1978, 1,410 black men applied to medical school and 542 ended up enrolling. In 2014, both numbers were down — 1,337 applied & 515 enrolled.” - NPR

After 40+ years, why have the numbers gotten worse instead of better for Black men?
