Michelangelo is one of the most famous artists of all time. But he had a huge secret...

He's best known for the painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican.

The crazy part? Michelangelo didn't consider himself a painter. His true passion? Sculpting beautiful pieces out of marble.

At the time, sculpting was seen as the highest form of art. So much so that he signed his payment note for the Sistine Chapel as "Michelangelo, sculptor".

Imagine that! One of the most iconic paintings in history, taking 5 years and thousands of hours, and he dismissed it as not his true art form.

Michelangelo was so passionate about sculpting the human body that he paid an attendant at the city morgue to study unclaimed corpses.

He wanted to understand how ligaments, tendons, and muscle fibers worked. That's why his statues are alarmingly realistic.

Naturally, people were curious. How did he do it? Where did his inspiration come from?

One day, someone asked him about his creative process while he was finishing a marble statue of an angel.

His reply is now one of the greatest quotes about creativity: "I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free."

This line speaks volumes. It's about the inherent contradictions in life. You're alive and dying with every breath.

Bad people can do good things. A block of marble can contain a beautiful angel.

Above all, it's about seeing beauty in the mundane. The first attempt at something, a perfectly fried egg, a slight breeze.

It's the beauty that perhaps only you can see, hidden in plain sight, making it the most beautiful of all.
