India doesn't have a football funding problem. India has a football system problem.
AIFF's approved budget for 2025-26 was around (US$9–12 million).
Compare that with countries that have recently beaten India:
🇿🇼 Zimbabwe (ZIFA): Under US$2–3 million
🇹🇯 Tajikistan (TFF): Around US$1–2 million
🇯🇲 Jamaica (JFF): Around US$1–3 million
India spends several times more than all three, has a population of 1.4 billion, better infrastructure, a bigger commercial market, and an ISL ecosystem backed by significant private investment.
So why are the results not matching the investment?
The problem is not money. The problem is execution, grassroots development, coaching quality, talent identification, accountability, and a system that many fans believe is influenced by favoritism rather than pure merit.
Until Indian football rewards the best talent and builds a strong development pathway, bigger budgets alone won't improve results.
