@Walldanzig @SheffieldStar Also, if road tax were used to maintain the highways, it should probably be calculated according to the wear, tear and emissions caused by different vehicle types.

@Walldanzig @SheffieldStar New roads and highway maintenance comes from general taxation so the road tax you've paid never funded the roads you use in the first place - everyone did. Road tax is an excise duty and goes into a consolidated fund.
