The paper reported that REBT changed the low frustration tolerance (LFT) beliefs of an elite table tennis athlete. Athlete and coach evaluation + video analysis, revealed positive changes in behaviour, and performance. The athlete won silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games.
"Is it so Hard to Change? The Case of a Hong Kong Olympic Silver Medallist" by Gangyan Si & Hing-chu Lee (2008) was perhaps the 5th article to report REBT in sport. https://t.co/GjKpORaQBZ
Interestingly, more detail about the work done with the athlete can be seen in Gangyan Si & Chun-Qing Zhang's chapter (11) of the book Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy in Sport and Exercise https://t.co/cLZPjXyQJd #rebt@DrMJTurner @thinkpsychol @SmartThinkPro
Are you one of those..."The REBT in sport research is ok, but it never gives enough detail on how REBT is actually done" people?...then you could check this out from @DrAndrewGWood and @RoryJMack https://t.co/NS5vIUaRgn @rebtsport@SmartThinkPro@rebt_uk
50 free copies of our paper. https://t.co/YbozCyIcGF We conceptualise and develop a new emotion beliefs measure. It assesses stimulus-response beliefs ("it made me feel") and cognitive-mediation beliefs ("change in thoughts=change in emotion"). @MMUPsychology @HPSCResearch #rebt
