Born on October 8 1970, in Kōchi Prefecture (Japan), Tetsuya Nomura is one of the most influential and recognizable character designers in the world of video games. He joined Square (now Square Enix) in the early ’90s as a debugger, but quickly rose to become the defining visual voice behind some of gaming’s biggest franchises.
His unmistakable style mixes sharp, edgy lines with wild-flowing hair, intricate outfits loaded with belts and zippers and that perfect blend of cool, emotional depth and larger-than-life presence. Nomura’s characters don’t just look stylish: they feel iconic the moment you see them.
