[In the face of tyranny, #Hongkongers stand with the oppressed #Belarusian]
1. Although #police unreasonably fired rubber bullets and tear gas at protesters last week, tens of thousands of #Belarusian still took to streets and voiced their anger on #policebrutality.
We HongKongers, our thoughts are with #Belarus. The extent of repression, police brutality, jail abuse and intimidation Belarusians are facing are much the same as we are resisting everyday. #StandWithBelarus End authoritarianism. Dictators must be ousted!
(2020.07.26) A microbiologist who diagnosed early coronavirus cases in China has told the BBC he believes local officials covered up the initial outbreak. Kwok-yung Yuen says there’re gaps in the action taken and a reluctance to acknowledge the number. #BBCNewsTen#BBCPanorama
Arrests of pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong are deeply concerning – politicized law enforcement is inconsistent with universal values of freedom of expression, association, and peaceful assembly.
The United States should be standing up for freedom and standing with the people of Hong Kong. Instead, Trump has said he's “standing with Xi Jinping.” That's weak. We need to be strong on values when it comes to China. That's what I'll do as president.
1/ In the midst of a global pandemic, it is unconscionable that the witch hunt has continued against #HongKong pro-democracy leaders. Human rights & rule of law abuses in HK are worsening & the Trump Admin needs to robustly implement & enforce the HK Human Rights & Democracy Act.
As the world focuses on #COVID_19 response, #HongKong’s gov’t
arrested a group of pro-democracy leaders, including Martin Lee & Jimmy Lai. Their charges should be dropped immediately. HK’s leaders & Beijing are turning HK’s justice system into a CCP farce.
