Students will be inundated with rules & what they “can’t do” on the first day of school. A relationship-based classroom gets students pumped about all of the cool things they “can do” in the coming year. Community over compliance, relationship over rules. We got this!!!
Positive classroom relationships enhance student motivation, promote learning, & reduce bad behavior. This starts on day one by learning students’ names. For the first few weeks, I have them say their name before responding, then I say their name back before I respond.
