@stacydavisgates Put your $ where your mouth is please. If you are concerned with the # of SpEd vacancies, it would behoove you to negotiate for strong pipeline language in your contract. We’ve been waiting for you guys to use bargaining to compel hiring forever. What are you waiting for?
@miriamcbthinks So principals could base a decision on whether the IEP has toileting &/or feeding. & if not, hire a TA who, unlike a SECA, could also be used for other tasks. CTU’s disgusting shameless attempt to poach SEIU labor/inflate its membership coffers at the expense of SpEd kids. Gross
@miriamcbthinks The obvious aside, the proposed language grants “principles and other district officials” the discretion to determine whether a student needs a SECA or TA, thus inserting principals into the IEP process. Rife for abuse and a huge step backwards.
@miriamcbthinks The repeated use of “laid off” in the article is misrepresentative. They were all reassigned, and the # of TAs in the budget hasn’t changed significantly in years.
@citygirl622 If the Mayor is still accruing time toward CTU pension while on leave from the Union, then he is bargaining with his own union on matters affecting his own pension. It’s a conflict of interest and he should recuse himself from negotiations.
@SSKedreporter@FaheyHughes The Mayor owes an apology for minimizing the impact of her administration’s lack of foresight. You were doing journalism. She was being dismissive and uppity. I am glad you shut her down.
@chicagospedpac The amount that CPS is offering parents for transport due to bus shortage is $500/mo. 9x what they propose to offer for SSCA reimbursement — $500/yr is $55.55/month. With the additional $1000 “up front” the bus crisis parents are reimbursed 10x more than the SSCA parents
@chicagospedpac No. the student continues to qualify. When CPS has awarded placement > 6 miles from home, parent signs Transpo waiver appended to the IEP. Illegal but common
