🚨🗣️New: Thierry Henry reacts to the USA vs Paraguay stoppage for TV commercials:
“I’ve spent my entire life in this beautiful game — as a player at the highest level, as a fan, and now as someone who analyses it every week — and what unfolded during that USA versus Paraguay match left me deeply frustrated. The fourth official standing there on the touchline, arm raised high, instructing the referee to hold the restart… not for any injury, not for tactical reasons, and not even primarily for player hydration in that scorching heat. No. It was because the broadcast team hadn’t finished airing all their commercials. That’s not football. That’s a television show pretending to be a World Cup match.
The beautiful game is being strangled by greed. Players are out there in the heat, ready to restart, momentum building like a storm about to break — and we pause everything so the sponsors can cash in. It’s like stopping a symphony mid-crescendo because the advertisers want their jingle heard. Football didn’t conquer the world by turning into American sports with endless timeouts and ad breaks. We had rhythm, flow, emotion that flowed like a river. Now? It’s dammed up for dollars.
This isn’t about hydration or player welfare anymore — it’s a slippery slope where the soul of the game is sold piece by piece. Fans deserve better. Players deserve better. The referee on that pitch looked like a puppet on strings controlled from some broadcast truck. Enough is enough. We need to protect what made this sport the greatest on Earth before it disappears completely.”
The World Cup should be football’s cathedral. Instead, we’re turning it into a shopping mall with a pitch in the middle.
And here’s the question nobody wants to answer: if the fourth official is waiting for commercials, then who is really running the game? FIFA? The referee? Or the broadcasters?
Because the moment football starts asking advertisers for permission before asking the players, you’ve crossed a line.
The World Cup is supposed to be the showcase of football. Not the showcase of who paid the most for airtime.”
@wayout1@stinginthetail@HEMacfarlane Eleven days in Qatar at a cost of approx $44,000 (more probably) and no, I have no idea what was achieved there or what value for money Australians got out of it
I'm sure the guided tours around Doha were nice though
@LorraineLozza75 Lorraine, we have been so concerned about you. So sorry you are going through so much that is tough.
Goodness 6 removed, good thing you were seen to. May your dear brother go well❤️🥺
Culture war aside, all 4 eps are up and are a great dive into the way autistic women and gender diverse ppl are treated/mistreated, both person to person and societally.
Talking to experts and people with lived experience.
Super interesting and important.
Highly recommend!
@RebelNews_AU It does not have a left wing bias. If anything it is slightly the other way. The RW has, as always, an anti ABC bias because that’s what Rupert wants
@rohan_connolly The redemption arc is too much, considering his own battles with substance abuse how is he going to cope with the pressure and scrutiny a coaching role brings.
Neale Daniher was simply a great human. A brilliant and gifted footballer sadly cut down by injury, then an innovative, shrewd & successful AFL coach, then an incredibly courageous, relentless ambassador for research & funding into the scourge of MND. What a leagcy. RIP Neale.
@RonniSalt@Christi58156854 Thats it isn’t it, ON for example are being amplified as if they are in a very powerful position making and shaping policy. It is all manufactured.
@GusLefty A lot of noise from people with heavy wallets. It’s expected. The short term political hit the govt is taking is because the media is doing the whacking, not majority of Aussies who want the changes made.
Just keep patiently explaining please @JEChalmers until the 95% register that it doesn’t affect them. That means a sustained fight back against most of the media’s agenda. Heaps of Australians, including boomer cohort, strongly support your changes.
This is absolutely brilliant stuff from @RonniSalt, not just skewering the lying, grifting hypocrite that is Pauline Hanson, but the insipidness and greed of both major parties (and complicit media) which has allowed One Nation to flourish.
And here's a challenge to her legion of (paid for) trolls on here ... try actually reading this, then see if she really is looking out for you & "telling it like it is", or just milking your gullibility for all it's worth. You many not like what you find.
PS. And yeah, bots, I've turned off the replies, have better things to do than waste time and energy on fictitious outrage.
