1. Cargo consolidation remains an important and supported option for small-scale traders.

2. The minimum yield is a risk-management reference under the simplified clearance arrangement — it is not the actual tax liability for every container.

3. Traders can opt out of the simplified arrangement and request verification, with taxes determined from the actual goods, value and classification.

4. Traders may also de-consolidate and make individual declarations based on their respective goods.

5. KRA has engaged industry stakeholders and remains committed to facilitating legitimate trade while ensuring a fair business environment.

Kenya Pipeline Company Board Chairperson Faith Bett Boinett is facing a High Court petition filed at the Milimani Law Courts by the Kenya Petroleum Oil Workers Union, which is seeking her removal over claims of conflict of interest.

The union accuses Boinett of serving as a shareholder and director of Fastnett Energy Limited, a company said to have transport and storage agreements with KPC dating back to 2018 and renewed several times.

KPOWU argues that her appointment by President William Ruto through Gazette Notice No. 18372 of December 19, 2025 was unconstitutional and breached provisions on governance, integrity, public leadership and conflict of interest.

The petition cites Articles 10, 73, 75 and 232 of the Constitution, together with the Conflict of Interest Act, the Companies Act and Mwongozo, the governance code for state corporations.

Those named in the case include KPC, Acting Managing Director Pius Mwendwa, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, the Attorney General, Business Registration Services, the Capital Markets Authority and Fastnett Energy Limited, with Uganda’s Attorney General also joined.

The case comes as KPC moves through privatisation and stock market listing, placing the conflict of interest claims at the centre of a major ownership and governance transition.
